I think the two main things that makes this show so lovable and charming is the gilmore family bond and the bond of the town and this episode is the first where you kind of start to really get to know the people there better which is what I love about it

At this point I didn't really like Sookie yet either. But, as anyone keeps saying so it's not a spoiler, she's a good charachter once we get a bit further in. But one thing you have to accept: in this universe Sookie is the best damn cook the world has seen. We just have to blindly accept that fact despite seeing her burning everything, licking the spoons etc. Start accepting that, and then slowly you'll forget that she's annoying/not funny these first episodes.
