These reactions have been the first time I have watched S5 again in full and it just reminded me why. Some stand out moments and songs but, truly a shell of what we fell in love with at the start. S6 gets some of that back and is much better but, it was too late.

The reason season 5 was a mess was because the writers had to rewrite almost the entire season at the last minute. Cory passed away not long before they had originally planned to begin production for season 5. Finn had an already planned storyline but because his character had passed away, so much had to be rewritten. The producers took two weeks off to rewrite the storylines which is why the season was two episodes short. For the final season, the writers wanted to take their time to write one last season so they decided to make the season short.

Yeah it makes complete sense why this season felt so disjointed, it must've been very tricky for them to work around Cory's passing in such a short amount of time too. Unfortunately what we still got with season 5 is a mess, has some good moments for sure but this season should've been 13 episodes or something. Felt like they just threw loads of storylines at the wall and added them all in
