Lake Laogai is named after the Chinese word for "reform through work" (劳改). During the height of communism in China in the 50's/ 60's, Chairman Mao would throw political prisoners or dissidents into labour camps/ prisons called Laogai (劳改) as punishment.

Yesssss excited to watch!!

Jet is dead tho :( They just can't show a kid's death on a kid's show.

Ansley

No one mentions this one when they're talking about their favorites because trust me, the rest of the episodes in this season almost overshadow it. This episode is easy to forget in the grand scheme of things. Though i will say it's a great episode, so will the rest of the fans

I just remembered what the next episode is... right off the bat you're gonna flip your shit. Well, you might idk

You know things are dead serious and you better listen when Iroh - calmest guy in the world - starts screaming at you. Such a fantastic scene! Jet saying he'd be fine and Toph saying that he's lying was meant to confirm his death. But yeah ... it was really unclear.

This is one of my favourite episodes, the speech Iroh gives to Zuko is one of the best scenes in all of Avatar. It gets overlooked because of the amazing finale.

Adam is Magic

This is the end of the Blue Spirit.

totally agree with u. love that speech. but does it get overlooked though? i think avatar is just in general overlooked

Wow! Honestly I'm watching the show for the first time alongside these reactions and this is the first episode where I started to understand the hype. That Iroh scene was everything.

Carrie Weaver

The iroh and Zuko scene is one of my all time favorite scenes of the series. When I think about this show that is one of the scenes that always stands out. That and the series finale. Zuko and Iroh are my top 2 characters and that scene and how it played out is one of the reasons. You're right that Zuko still has an important journey for his development and he doesn't always make the right choices in the future but this is a HUGE mile stone for him. I love this episode so much.

I believe the creators confirmed that Jet is dead. I think this was the best they could do since Nickelodeon limited them on how close to death they could get.
