Angel season 1 runs alongside Buffy season 4. In my opinion season 1 has a bunch of ok episodes (which is what I would consider these first two) a couple episodes I think are awful and a couple I think are good. But none are amazing, which the best episodes of later seasons are.

I feel like it's so common now for shows to have an outstanding first season and then get progressively worse. Season 1 isn't gonna be the best tv you'll ever see, but I promise it's paving the way for something really special :) Glad you're somewhat enjoying it anyway!

Buffy the rare show where after the first season nearly every season is amazing and the first season was only hit or miss because it was mid-season replacement show the weren't given a lot of time to work with it.

Yeah with Buffy, in my opinion each season just gets progressively better and better.
