One thing to understand about this show is that part of the fanbase is slavishly devoted to certain iconic developments from the books. Sometimes the show gets away from deviating from that in certain points without the fanbase rioting too much, but other things simply would make the fanbase lose their damn minds. So basically this whole episode and the thing with Clary was an excuse for Simon to get kidnapped again (as well as some pretty boneheaded moments in the next episode) because there is a plot development coming where he is concerned. And they just pulled it off pretty badly. 9 times out of 10 on this show, if there is a plot that seems like it isn't working, its fanservice for the book stans.

well the thing is, Simon was already IN LOVE. And even if they weren't dating, I feel like the scenes would've played out those ways anyways. Because they've had emotional scenes like that without the kissing before. Like when she thought Simon was going to die. Alec is already my MVP but i'm bias cause he's my son. But the thing is, Izzy was USING Raphael. He kept saying no but eventually she made him cave.
