I think the reason it was a surprise that the baby could male hybrids was because previously Klaus needed Elenas blood to turn them

I get that klaus is no angel, but honestly I think the fact that he didn't dagger Elijah is already showing some major character development. Also, now we know he clearly cares The for baby, as the accusation that he didn't obviously really hurt him. I think he just needs to understand that they can't read his mind and, considering history, they have no reason to see the development that is happening. Personally I see both sides, but will have to say I believe that klaus is in the right in this one.
