I suppose the alternate dimension in this episode didn't really have a purpose, it was just a bit of fun and to serve as a filler, plus they were paid alot to promote the new Alice In Wonderland movie. I get why people were so annoyed with Alec in these eps, but like he's just a little lost and in this episode he was trying to get the cup back to protect Izzy, which is totally understandable. Plus I think the cup is in better hands with the clave than it is with two reckless shadowhunters (Jace and Clary). Izzy was my fave part of the Alternate Universe she was so nerdy and adorable. Plus seeing Alec so openly gay was nice and it was kind of a glimpse as to what Alec would be like he didnt have all this baggage and self hate.

So the point was that the necklace she had is a portal shard basically and it is some how connected to valentine but the portal was located in the alternate universe for some reason. However that being said it doesn't really make sense on why it was in the AU or how she got the shard in the first place. That wasn't really explained well. So I am with you on some of the confusion. Alec is just lost and spiraling with worry for his sister and he doesn't really think clearly when he doesn't have or know how to control a situation. He gets a little less problematic in episode 12 and on. Can still have his annoying moments but gets some much better and relaxed. I loved this episode and your reaction as always. 😄

Oh yeah, it was Alec's fault. I think it was a mixture of his jealousy of clary, his anger at his parents and his worry for his sister that drove him to do that, but it was his fault. No denying this. I mean, he's my baby, but I can admit he did screw up here. I do think it was just wrong for them to lie to him, though. I can also see why they lied and took the cup, but what, did they not expect him to feel betrayed? It's like they feel as though Alec betrayed them so they betayed alec, now alec betayed them, etc. It's sad af. Honestly, the only main character I wasn't annoyed with in these few episodes was Simon haha. Everyone's been annoying. Jace always sides with Clary, Clary is purely annoying, Alec is pushing everyone away, izzy and Magnus are being switzerland...Simon is the hero lol.

Also there is one thing from the alternate dimension that shows up in this season again, so I think there was only one “important” thing that the AU brought us. This episode was really more of just a fun venture off from the norm. Alec has been very risky the past few episodes but a few things are about to change and he’ll be back to his Clary-hating, hardass self again. Magnus, Izzy, Alec and Valentine I absolutely loved in the alternate dimension and it was fun seeing them play something other than what we’re used to seeing. Next episode and the one episode after that are two VERY important episodes, so I can’t wait for your reaction to those and I hope no one spoils them for you <3

Just so you're not disappointed - everyone's gonna hype up ep12. Listen, I love it, but it's pretty average other that one great, perfect scene. Music, lighting, acting...ugh amazing. Expect that in 90% of the episodes in season 2. But anyway yeh
