Monster Girl 1,000 Update Blog 01/05/2021 (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone, it's time to give you an update on the next episode's progress.
As mentioned before, episodes will be cut into halves so they release roughly every month instead of once every two months. But the content will only release when it's ready, and I won't rush it.
Progress Meters:
Characters - 5/5 - 90% (Still need to do emotes)
Event CG - 1/9 - ~30% (A lot of pictures are ready to be worked on, but still need adjustments)
Writing - 23,000 words - 80% (Currently being edited)
Battles - 3 Fights - 50% (Need to draw Mantis monsters)
Coding - 0%
Episode 2.5 is the name of the next release, and it'll only have three contracts, but the content is dense. Not only does each contract include a new sex scene, each of them result in additional sex scenes with shop owners becoming unlocked.
Changes:
As mentioned before, the design philosophy has changed. The protagonist no longer has a pre-determined personality and now you can softly roleplay your way through the world. Reacting how you choose and having the world react to you in turn.
Additionally, each character is going to be fleshed out more before you engage them in sex. Now you'll be able to learn about their backstory, optionally ask them questions, and then engage in a longer sex scene with them featuring two different CG.
Combat
I think episode 3 is around the time you'll be getting familiarised with the combat, so I was comfortable enough to design the battles to be challenging for me to beat them without equipment upgrades.
Episode 3 introduces status effects more prominently, with one battle introducing poison, another focusing on dangerous buff effects and the final one having a slew of negative statuses to contend with.
I'd feel sorry for anyone that rushes into a contract without buying some antidotes, eye drops or a megaphone from Jiangshi, the town's alchemist.
Limit Breaks
This is also where the game introduces Limit Breaks. About time! These are the most powerful abilities you have, and each are capable of changing the tides of battle.
Dante unlocks Dragon Fang, the first AoE attack you'll unlock along with one of the highest power ratings.
Bessie has triple status bolts, where she fires a blind, silence and sleep bolt simultaneously at random foes; three turns in one, not bad.
Ray has the ability to transform like Vincent from FF7, she'll have various forms that completely change her moveset. I'll let you discover what her 'Fury' form does for yourself.
Passives
Eagle eyed players may have noticed that the characters already had some inherent differences subtly coded into them. Ray had bonus evasion, Bessie had a higher critical hit chance. Now these abilities are going to be reworked into the 'Special' category as passive abilities. Dante has been given +10% Fire Resistance as his new passive.
At level 5, the gang will unlock new passives:
Dante gaining +10% Charm Resistance. (Because Charm causes you to attack team mates, and Dante's hits would be devastating)
Bessie gaining Immunity to the Blind Status. (Because she's designed to have 100% attack accuracy)
Ray gaining a 10% bonus to TP gains. (Because she doesn't naturally gain TP with normal attacks, so she needs a little boost.)
This new passive system is an important addition, because it gives me a lot more creative freedom on providing the player with methods to upgrade their party. For example, players may have dedicated buildings which give them benefits if upgraded. e.g. Ray may have a library, Bessie a target range and Dante a training room.
Afterword:
Monster Girl 1,000 is all about making interesting decisions. Which character do you invest in when you buy the next big armour upgrade? Do I use the information broker before I go on this new contract? What about my weapon, is the bonus agility better than the bonus attack? Which building should I make next in Mistral Village? How should I reply to Ray in this conversation?
And I want this to feed into every aspect of the game. I never want the player to mindlessly press a button, unless it's to move to the next dialogue box.
I hope you're as excited about the future of MG1,000 as I am.
Poll: How often did you utilize the Information Broker?
