My next game has begun official production. It'll be developed using the RPGMaker MV engine, but it won't be an RPGMaker game. Instead, expect it to be similar to Friendship with Benefits in the fact you traverse menus to interact with various elements of the world. However, this time there will be RPG combat spruced up between story elements to give this game a little more flavour.
Here's the general idea of the game:
Start on World Map,
Visit Next Town,
Complete 1-3 Story Contracts, unlock Monster Babes as you do.
Get Stronger,
Complete Advancement Contract for the Town, unlocks the next area.
Repeat!
Expect a comfortable, easy to pick up and familiar game for those that played Friendship with Benefits, but a lot more actual gameplay in terms of combat, party management and RPG elements.
RPG combat will be rather unique, since instead of having a series of random battles across a stretch of area, you'll instead be facing only a few encounters at a time through story. This means the majority of encounters are entirely unique, and grinding is almost non-existent. Acknowledging this system means introducing a unique mechanic to the game, and that's in the form of a town NPC called the 'Information Broker'. The Information Broker allows you to purchase information on a contract beforehand to discover what weaknesses, strengths and immunities the enemies you'll be facing have. You may even get some unique flavour advice from the NPC themself.
The game will have several mini-stories associated with certain characters in each town, told through completing contracts, and there will be an overarching story tying everything together. Typically you will be contracted to fight against monster girls, or help monster girls. If you're helping a shopkeeper, you'll be able to flirt with them later for a sex scene. If you're fighting a monster girl, there's a chance they'll join your harem. There may also be extra party members that'll join your squad temporarily for certain contracts.
A monster girl in your harem can be interacted with to increase their affection towards you. Once a day, you can talk with them or have sex. Once their affection is maxed, they may offer to rematch you in a EX version of their previous boss fight, and if you can beat it you'll unlock their final sex scene.
I also hope to make one of the towns a unique upgradable hub where the player can invest gold to get rewards over time. Like one of those strategy games where you build castles, mines, and stuff. This'll be the main location of the player's harem which you'll be able to access at any time through another town's menu.
There will also be an arena which will challenge the player's RPG skills in a unique way with several different styles of combat challenges. THese are purely for the glory, and will often have the hardest fights in the game, but for the best rewards. There will be a ladder league which'll feature one battle at a time, where you climb the leaderboards and each battle gets progressively tougher but more rewarding. There will also be tournaments sprinkled through the game which you'll get encouraged to engage with where the player will be pit against a series of matches in a row with a boss at the end. These tournaments will be more about resource management, as unlike almost the entirety of the game there's no healing between matches.
As with all the above mechanics and opportunities, a level recommendation will be included so the player never feels overwhelmed at difficulty spikes. Additionally, there will be no game overs.
So what about the story? The general setup is the player starts their journey by passing the Hunter's exam and becoming a fully-fledged Hunter, along with their sister, Elizabeth, and a new found friend in the Arsenal Magus, Ray. These are the three main characters.
The three of you have your own personal agendas, with you the player wanting to find your mother, another powerful Hunter that vanished a few years ago. Elizabeth is looking for money to invest in her village (this'll be tied into the upgradable hub), and Ray seems to be looking for a certain power. The three of you, a knight, ranger, and mage, figure you're a good fit for a Hunter party, and work together with your first inciting incident to visit the capital city in the centre of the map while completing contracts along the way.
How will this game be developed and demo'd? Well, fortunately due to the way the game is designed in chunks, it may be entirely possible to release this game area by area on Patreon. This means there will be fairly regular updates that slowly build the game from a cute small thing like FwB 0.2 was, to the dense goliath FwB 1.2 ended up being. This game will be bigger and better than FwB, and it'll probably take two years to complete instead of just the one. It's even 1920*1080 instead of 1280*720.
