Hey all, time for a new progress report!

A big one since we skipped last week due to a Bank Holiday here in Germany.

This time we have a little extra request for you. Many of you remember the “Spacedeer” from the demo. Well, we made a bit of a re-design and want to give it a proper name now and want to involve you in the process. Check out the current lore-description for him and write in the comments what you think this guy would be called:

“The common _____ is a harmless, shy creature. Being the chosen prey of many of Kerpal's native predators, as well as the settled tribes, its reaction to assault is always flight. Its prominent antlers are suspected to perform a process similar to floral photosynthesis. This thesis is still widely doubted, even though federation scientists managed to prove the existence of plant-like cells in the antlers.The creature lives in small herds and lays eggs to reproduce, which is why one could best compare them to dinosaur-like chickens. When grazing in peaceful content, its rather high-pitched bellowing roams the meadows and other lush areas of Kerpal's north. The dry and heated desert areas are inhabitable for the _____ .”

We are looking forward to cool suggestions for a name for this guy. And now to the weekly update in each department.

Level: Some more improvements to the Pearl Village level layout. We also worked on the Alpha camp area and made tons of improvements to the look and design as well as continued to detail out the Umbar forest region.

Worked on the material updates and tools for the level artists.

Code: Merged UE5.2 into our custom engine version.

Added some advanced placement options for sandbox edit mode: There is now an option called "Align with normal", which basically rotates newly placed props depending on the angle of the surface you drag them onto.

We started overhauling the item and inventory system to suit the needs of our tools and gameplay.

We also started setting up character mesh LODing.

Character:  Progress in the character outfit department isn't stopping. Check out these awesome WIPs for warriors and galactic rangers. We also worked on the Kerpali version of Yanu (one of Maya’s friends that transforms during the game's story into a Fox-Kerpali). She is based on Rasha’s animation skeleton.


Animations: Maya Yanu scene is well underway and nearing completion on the animation side. We also continue to make progress on various NPC routine animations.

Design: Multiple tasks have been worked on in the past two weeks here:

  • We got the elber/luanna questline to work + updated Luanna dialogues
  • Implemented 2 quests for Maya / Zyke, 1 quest for Maya / Jadeen, 1 quest for Maya / Yanu
  • Finished main quest 'We come in peace' dialogue
  • Started working on Maya / Mona bully squad quest
  • Created usable versions of several new monsters to put in the game, but without animations yet
  • Functional design for all spaceships and shuttles in the game
  • Main Quest Chapter 2 all dialog for game and cutscenes
  • Lizard lore : What does the player learn from which faction, progress of player knowledge throughout the game

Okay first, the new design of the space deer looks good. As for the name I hope this works: Kentrosoraus. The two areas look great so far. The model for the rangers, villager, and Chakkar's brother are coming along great. I love the new outfit for the female wolf Kerpali and can't wait for Rasha to sport it. But the main thing is the new addition to the cast and it's a fox. She looks gorgeous and now with all of this, it's not making me more excited for more lore and things, but also I will be even more busy when this comes out. This game I'm really glad I got into when I did as now it seems the real good stuff is rolling out.

How about something like "Sylvans" for the spacedeer? Spacesuits look sleek by the way, and glad that we're getting foxes soon.

Foxes getting added does that mean the canine kerpali are getting more animations too? They are lacking for the females but abundant for the males. Maybe some actual climaxes for them with the existing kerpalis like kral. There is only the rawn rasha climax but that's it. Will they get some or will they keep getting blue balled? 😂

Spacedeer Namechange: I would choose a connection from the obvious, namely the connection of a "horn-faced shield lizard" (Ceratops/Chasmosaurinae) and a "bird-footed" (Ornitopde) dinosaur. So that it does not appear too contrived, one could orient oneself at namings and facts, which already exist. Both dinosaur species belonged to the group of the "bird basin dinosaurs" and were herbivores. There were the differences already evident in the name (horn and gait). In WILDLIFE both species and in particular the "Draconyx" (meaning: "dragon claw") and "Machairoceratops" (meaning: "horned face with curved sword") are now combined and become a species walking on 2 legs with horns. Since this species is a - let's call it - world-filling accessory NPC, without providing great story-relevant content and just adding more life to the world, a name should be chosen that depicts the whole group of these creatures, such as: Chasmopod Cerapode Ornatop Dracotop Machaironyx Machairopode When naming it, you could use the most obvious feature, like "Dracotop" (short and concise)

the suit design is not practical where the sleeve meets the glove. This looks like asking for trouble if you expect this suit work as a protection against the environment and at the same time you want to be able to work even in small spaces... rubble (contaminated rubble) can stick in the fold between sleeve and glove and so on... it looks... kinda stylish... but it is definitely not functional... and I would expect a space suit is first protective, then functional and then something else...

On closer inspection 🧐, the neck of the animated fox lady seems a bit too long to me 🤔. It fits better on the concept drawing.

Snorkelope. (If you aren’t careful they will walk along the bottom of lakes or rivers, with only their horns above water, this happened a fair bit in Conan Exiles)

How about something like: Praedittus? Its latin, basically means "little prey", or Praedatus which means, "Of prey," or if you want something really simple you could something like, Xenopraeda which is literally, "Alien," but I think the other two are more unique. I would call it an ahop. it's common, everyone knows it. it should have a short common name, like dear. maybe give it a separate scientific name if that makes sense for the description.
