Patreon Friends,

With many exciting developments on the horizon, I wanted to reach out to you--our loyal Patreon community—to make sure you're the first to know what’s next for Wild Life as we continue toward our goals of continued development and release to the public.

Our Patreon community has been the backbone of Wild Life, and you’ve been the ones backing us from the start and believing in this wild and sexy mission. THANK YOU!

If you’ve been following the project for some time or if you know anything about game development, you may be aware of the many costs and extensive amount of blood, sweat, and tears that go into developing a project like this. And as we continue to develop with an eye on a release date to mainstream audiences, we want to make sure we release a top-notch gaming experience. We want to be sure to do right by you, too, by giving you a product you can be proud of knowing that you played a pivotal role in creating.

With this in mind, we're looking to scale up our development efforts to more quickly bring Wild Life to life (pun intended) because you deserve it! And we think the world deserves to discover it too. Fueled by these goals, we wanted to announce to you first that we will be introducing new audiences to Wild Life via Kickstarter while simultaneously retaining and strengthening our presence here on Patreon.

We plan to introduce Wild Life on Kickstarter in October and run the campaign through November in order to raise additional funds and create public awareness and interest in the project. Patreon will remain our focal point for developing funding and sharing announcements since you are a vital part of Kerpal and this project.

During and after the Kickstarter campaign, Patreon will remain our main development platform, where we will continue to explore ideas and deliver updates to you in the usual bi-monthly release schedule. After Wild Life is fully launched we will continue our work on additional content packages like add-ons, DLCs, and more.

We are also excited to announce an upcoming release we know you'll love. The new Wild Life Patreon build will be available to our Member-tier supporters on or around October 8th and around 2 weeks later the $10 version goes live as usual. This will be the final demo build with which we’ll launch the Kickstarter campaign and will be available on Steam. The Steam version of the Demo will be uncensored and free for everyone, but will not include the Sandbox Mode. Our next release then follows in December, adhering to our regular release schedule.

As we always want to hear what our community has to say, we invite you to join us for a live stream Q&A on Picarto.

When? October 3rd.
21:00 Berlin Time (UTC+2)
12:00 Los Angeles, CA Time (UTC-7)
19:00 UTC

Chris and I will talk more about the Kickstarter campaign and how it will play a role in building on the work the Patreon community has already done.

If you can't make it to the stream, we will record it and of course continue to keep you updated as these happenings unfold.

Thank you again for your unwavering belief and investments in this vision. We can't wait to bring Wild Life to life, so more people can experience this revolutionary gaming experience, which you’ve helped to create.

With much gratitude,

- Steve and the whole Wild Life Team

This is incredibly exciting! Congratulations! You people amaze me! Thank you, and thank you for letting us be involved directly and indirectly in the creation of WildLife, its been an amazing ride (pun intended) so far and it looks like its about to get to get even bigger.

RemnantRyku

Hell yeah! Ever forward!

Will there be any kickstarter benefits? And if so, will they be available to Patreon supporters?

Anonymous

Hey that's great I'm curious to see the benefits for the Kickstarter. Also could we get that as a poster?

Isidorn

I've somewhat mixed feelings about the Kickstarter announcement, but I'll have to see what rewards are offered before I go on. On one hand, it's of course great you can get more money to hopefully get the game finished sooner. On the other hand, I just realized I've already put about $900 into this game ($25/month since November 2018) and don't feel particulary inclined to to throw even more at the game for some sweet Kickstarter rewards, which I most likely could have got with those $900 had I not already pledged them through Patreon. I guess what I would like to suggest is perhaps to look over some possible additional rewards for long time supporters. For example, the top Patreon tier gets to pick an animation when their total pledge reaches $500. I'll be reaching a $1000 total (which feels rather insane) early next year, which feels like a suitable milestone to get something for. ;)

Ryproar

Sandbox is staying for us here right? I use it a lot and would hate to see it go away. And since there is a lot of us who have been here since the start will we get anything unique or special for being so loyal? Not to add to your list of things to do but it would be a nice thank you for sticking around reward. Maybe some fun little easter eggs with our credit names for instance. Kinda like Bethesda does with the tombstones. "Here Lies Bob Thompson. He was a stone cold SOB... Guess he is literally now..."

adeptussteve

I understand your concerns, but let me assure you that our dedicated patreon supporters will always be the number 1 for us ;) And feel free to message me about your 1000$ animation requests (you have 2!)

adeptussteve

Sandbox will never go away, only grow and get better ;) Yes of course, whatever we offer on KS, you big value long-term supporters will get something comparable Ill make sure of that. And yes, thats exactly what we were having in mind :D

ClydeCash

Im iffy with the Kickstarter announcement. Kickstarter doesn't have a great reputation, and gets political and hypocritically virtuous.

Anonymous

From the first time I saw your work I loved it I wish you luck and keep it up :D

It is great to see you evolving, and I am only here for 16 months, but the consistency, communication, delivering on promises and build release frequency is just amazing! You set the bar so high for any early access development. (I hope you are all still having fun with the process :)) In any case you have my support going forward! (Even if it is Kickstarter which will bring it's own set of challenges, but certainly a way to raise more capital.)

WarMallet

Yes, I'm with ClydeCash. Don't give into any political correctness. If you ever give into those types even just a little, they will just keep coming at you and for them enough is never enough. Just stay Wild no matter what. The Wilder the better. Tell them to pound sand if they don't like something or if they think anything is over the top. Us sinners out here just luv's the Wild stuff. Hell yea, that's why were here, just saying. Please don't scale anything back, Oh pretty please.

MicrochipSlayer

I am also with ClydeCash and WarMallet. I am also supporting another sexy game called "Project Helius" and they are making the big jump towards steam but in doing so they are starting to run into some major issues that involve censorship and they have to make some changes in order to comply with the "issue they are having". Some of those issues are involving beastiality which I am sure a lot of the Kerpali can be passable but I am a bit skeptical. I would have just gone with your own launcher instead; that way you have total control of what can and can't be in your game.

WarMallet

I have been playing world of tanks since it first started and that's been several years now. I play it separate from steam. I upgrade it and start the game login from their launcher. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to play wildlife from their own launcher. If making more capital is the issue then I understand and its all good. I just hope the game never gets watered down per say due to any goodie two shoes out there getting triggered. Stay frosty and keep bringing us the wild stuff.

Sergey

I wonder why any launcher is needed (I play from Linux and launchers are usually biggest sources of problems).

WarMallet

Aw, of that I have no doubt. Just remember though, Maya and her gang is really counting on you. No pressure there lol.

WarMallet

Ok, I just watched this video on y-tube [10 Kickstarter Tips from Crowdfunding Experts]. Now I get it. Good luck with it. It sounds good and I really hope the best for you guys. I don't even see how anyone wouldn't want to fund Maya and the gang.

WarMallet

I do have a question though. If you find that steam turns out to be a bit stifling to your creativity, would you or could you have your own launcher? I don't know if that would be a major cost for you but if you did have that option you would be flying by your own rules with no limitations. I would luv to see just how wild you guys would get in that scenario.

I found out about Wildlife a long time ago and at first I was thinking no way. This won't ever be a game. Someone click baiting out there. Then I began to realize this is an actual thing and I began to dig up more and more about Wildlife. Was also becoming sad at the same time my excitement grew because at the time I did not have a pc. I was stuck on console gaming. Now that I've got my hands on it. I do enjoy it, all of the while my wife is sitting there looking at me like really? haha. She does however share my thoughts about the game being beautiful. I would however like to know a few things if you can spare a moment. Is there going to be an actual story and survival to this? I like the sexy time stuff and all but that gets old really quick. What is the master plan in all of this? Can you possibly have a family? A life partner if you will in said game? Will actually going out and crafting and getting food or anything along those lines be a thing? Also for everyone else this is not me picking the game apart because I still like it. I would even still be playing it if these things are not something in the works. This is just me being very curious and finally having the courage to ask

adeptussteve

Hey, thanks :) Yes the game will have survival and story. You will have the chance to form relationship bonds with certain characters in the game to be something like a life partner. There wont be family building, as you wont be able to have kids (underage characters in an adult game is quite a nono after all). If you havent, check this out for more info on story and lore and what to expect from the game: https://www.canva.com/design/DAESXLEA8oc/14BnHfOvgfv0uNjBIEgAgA/view?website#2

What I'am wondering about is, how will people from Germany be able to get the Game on Steam, when the Demo releases or the Full Game? Since Steam is pretty dumb for sometime now when it comes to the German Store, since all "Adult Only" games are blocked to visit or buy. So even the Demo would be unavailable.

Just so you know, Steve, I played the $10 August build and it seems that the environment sounds in the sandbox mode fisher village are still missing but the music plays when I turn that setting on.

Noply

pretty good question - the answer sounds like a promise.

William Rodewald

I'm confused. Patreon says you're collecting some 88k€ monthly. I think a little transparency would be nice. Because if those numbers are correct you could pay a decent wage for some 22 developers. And I'm very much questioning that you actually employ 22 people right now. So if you'd do us a real favor, maybe be a bit transparent about what that money is used for. I understand that there are some inconsistencies with Patreon. For instance, people (like me) only joining up for a month when there is something new worth the money. And I'm sure that even when only pledging in those months that you publish updates, I still payed more for those in total than I did for any AAA game with DLCs and so forth. So why exactly do you need Kickstarter? With this revenue from Patreon you should be able to pay for a decent indie team or put a big portion aside and still be able to pay for a big indie team with a safety net that should cover you for months.

Anonymous

I think you're vastly underestimating how much they need to pay their staff and the overall costs. Industry wide, average per month cost per developer is $10k. That would mean a max of 10 developers on staff from Patreon funds, which isn't enough for what is currently planned in a reasonable timeframe. Steve might be taking a cut, but hired devs need fair wages.

William Rodewald

If only I would be payed 10k€ per month in my job. First of all, software developer != software developer. Afaik similar to my branch, game devs get paid less on average. Then it highly depends on where they're located but where I live (Berlin), I think game devs depending on seniority would get paid maybe 3-5k€ a month? Some senior debs a bit more. And I know that frist hand because I work in a very similar industry. (Aren't they based in Berlin?) Regardless, what I want is transparency because at this point, they get paid nearly 100k€ on a monthly basis and it's really hard to figure out what's being done with that. I don't mind supporting them paying devs and other employees fair wages and paying all the infrastructure (server, software licences etc). But I don't know if that's what is being done with the game.

adeptussteve

No, we employ 16 people. Also wage != company expense. If you've ever run a company or know someone who does, you'd know. We have to pay additional amounts of money for things like tax, software fees, office rent, cost for maintenance, freelancers, addional assets like voice overs, sounds, music, localization, lawers to review contracts and everything else like to supplies for the office down to the last roll of toilet paper. We also arent stupid and dont spend exactly the entire amount each month, we build up a security deposit in case something happens so we can pay salaries for a safe duration while getting an alternative funding method going. You cant just take the number on patreon, divide it by the average salary you think applies and say thats the number of people we have to employ then. Also we arent selling through patreon, so comparing what you have supported to the retail price of your average AAA title is also not applicable here. We are funding a development and as you know those are expensive. In case you misunderstood: we dont NEED the money from Kickstarter, but it would help a great deal to increase the final quality of the game. It also helps us gain attention from more mainstream oriented sources which we will need to do marketing, it also is a way for us to strengthen a sense of commitment since on kickstarter you are contractually bound to finish what you campaign for - unlike here on patreon where people have a justified amount of mistrust. I understand if you have mixed feelings about the Kickstarter but let me reassure you, the patreon community will always be the center pillar of our project and will do everything in our power to give you the best experience you deserve.

William Rodewald

I was employed in a very similarly sized company in a very similar industry in the same city so I know that that's legit then. (And thus yeah, I do know somebody who runs a company. I do know all the expenses. 🙄) Really, that information (how large this "operation" is) is all I needed. But from the information I got so far, your team could consist of anything between 2 and ??? people. So how are we supposed to estimate if the amount of support you get through Patreon is put to good use? ;) Maybe take this as something you could improve in future communication. Maybe link your company page in patreon because I just found out about that via your twitter page. And I usually don't check twitter. Re Kickstarter: I think that's a totally fine move. No mixed feelings at all. I just didn't know about the size of the company. And that move would look quite different for a 3-4 people operation than for a 16 people (you included?) company.

adeptussteve

Hey, sorry but im still not quite sure if I understand what you want. The first line in my response tells you how many people work for our company but it sounds like thats not the information you wanted? If you want we can have a little conversation via discord: adeptussteve#6529

William Rodewald

No, that was exactly the information I didn't have which made me wonder why you wanted to start a kickstarter with that much funding on patreon. Which is why I'd suggest to maybe link your company page on the Patreon page so people can get that information in the future. All good.

adeptussteve

Okidoki, thanks for the tip :) We are working on a new better version of the patreon page while doing the kickstarter page anyway and youre right, its something we should really put in there.

rugarou

My question at this moment, if you do the Kickstarter, and the steam... Then those of us on Patreon, do we get a free copy of the game? Or will we be required to purchase it as well when it's released?

adeptussteve

You will get a copy of the game for free if you have accumulated 30$ or more in support over the time.

Forest

x-rayyyyyyyyyy button , plz!

ClydeCash

@adeptus Steve This post is for your own good: do NOT bend the knee to snowflakes, feminists, puritans, cancel Culture, sjws, and any far lefties who spend their lives on social media and Twitter. Despite what sjws and feminists tell you, they are not going to throw a single dollar at you for pandering to them (they don't even support indie stuff they claim to "love" unless it's "organic" vape, weed, and lattes). If anything, they'll find something else to attack you with or go to the next victim like the Subverse developers who were stupid enough to almost comply to them (their actions drove people away from Subverse).

Ludovic Otto

Who's that on the poster? Are her pupils actually vertical? Are those real horns? If yes, I need her in the game, like, right. Fucking. Now!

adeptussteve

You can make her like that in our customization feature :) All of this is already in the game.

Ludovic Otto

Okay I see... I see hours of character customisations in my near future.
