Alola, Allies! As much as it would have benefited us for this review to go up LAST YEAR, there is a strange comfort in posting it just days before the end of our first year as Easy Allies. Pokemon played a big part in my first EZA year. I went from knowing very little to finishing the first and latest games in the franchise. Catching these little buggers was nowhere on my gaming radar, and now the prospect of this game on Switch is getting me incredibly hyped. I think the greatest thing Sun & Moon has going for it, as a newcomer to Pokemon, is depth. Those of you still charging up a 3DS each day can discover new things in this game over an incredible amount of time, a duration even rivaling the amazing games we've played so far in 2017. I'm frankly exhausted by it. Especially since I might start it all over on another console very soon. So I'm going to step away from Pokemon for a bit, but it's been very good to me, and I'm happy to post a review that reflects my many months of joyfully exploring this new world. Thank you for creating an environment where I can slowly absorb a game (every now and then) that deserves a review, but in due time. I'll also be taking a break from writing reviews for the foreseeable future, focusing on other people's reviews and our special features. I will still play Pokemon Go at Disneyland and other tourist spots, and there's plenty of shows and movies to get caught up on in the meantime. Until next time, happy hunting!

Pokémon Sun and Moon - Easy Allies Review

After months of vacationing on the islands of Alola, it's finally time to give Pokémon Sun and Moon some stars. The series has made some pleasant changes in its newest iterations, streamlining a lot of elements to line up with other popular RPGs. Is this sequel perfect for new fans, old fans, or both?

Good for you Jones and here's to catching'em all ;)

Hmm in the last podcast Jones was really critical on himself for his reviews, now he is stepping away from them completely, this makes me sad. I'm glad we still get to hear his thoughts on the podcast and a lot of Frame Traps because I like how he often has a different perspective on things.

Jones, I get why you are stepping away from reviews, but it still saddens me. I really appreciate your views on the games you play, even if it took you longer than you would have liked to get the video published. I work retail, and your reviews of DQ Builders, Steep and more recently Horizon all helped me make sales. In the immortal words of Gibbs: "You do what you have to" but I'll still miss getting your extended thoughts on games.

I'm glad you reviewed this, and I love your reviews Jones and don't want them to end, even though I understand why they're going on hiatus for now. That said, I'm surprised how forgiving you were to this game. Not even a mention of the alarming framerate, easily the worst in the entire franchise history, which even if you didn't know I'm sure Kyle would inform you about. I guess you also enjoyed being led from one location to the next with endless tutorials and cutscenes over the exploration of the original games which is a bit disappointing to see so many people get behind. Then there's the extremely dumbed down optional caves and such, sometimes consisting of a single room with a TM laying in it and no new Pokemon versus sprawling dungeons of trainers to fight and new Pokemon and items to find in previous entries. But honestly all that I can forgive being missing from the review next to the absence of talking about how absolutely horrid the Festival Plaza is. Not only is it a greatly inferior ripoff of the Join Avenue feature from Black/White 2, but it is a major downgrade from the way online was handled in the previous generation of Pokemon games, X and Y with the PSS system. This is something essential to every player that is just about as busted and broken as it could possibly be. It doesn't even hide how broken it is well. So while I'm glad Pokemon is finally on your radar and you're loving it, I can't help but feel like your review lacked some rather easy criticism. Maybe none of these things bothered you, can especially understand with the tutorials since you're a new player yourself, but I'm just personally disappointed that the usual, unapologetic Jones hot fire I've come to expect in your reviews seemed to be completely missing here. L & R & hope the circumstances surrounding Easy Allies allows you to return to reviews soon.

Now you can play tons of pokemon styles games but original gameboy red is still best...

I love that this review is out this far past release. I never got to this game and quite frankly, probably won't until it's released on Switch someday. Still- nowhere will you find such a thorough deep dive review. This review , as with many EZA reviews are ones you can hang your hat on. They may not be day 1 but they are solid.

Well the journey is finally over and it was an absolute pleasure to experience it with you Jones.

I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by the score after the less than glowing wrap up of Brandon Sun, Kyle Moon . Now let's shoot for the Stars.

Great review! This (and the series you've made) have really made me want to get into this series again and give it a go!

Jones: As others have mentioned, I get the sense that you are putting a good deal of pressure on yourself in writing reviews. While I think you are being too hard on yourself, I get that what others think won't change your feeling on the matter. With that said, I do think you offer a good perspective and it is always interesting to get other peoples opinion. I might offer a suggestion-- have you considered a way to offer your opinion on the games outside the traditional review structure? Something similar to the "preview" videos, but you can release it after the fact. Don't put a score to it, but do let us know what you think of a game-- what is getting you hyped? What is driving you nuts? I don't think throwing in your opinion should affect the "official" EzA review, just add more context--and who doesn't like context? Just a thought! L&R

still best...
