It's gonna have to wait until after Zelda and Persona but I'm definitely going to have to get this.

I'm in the exact same boat. It's absolutely KILLING me to pass this up for the time being.

I picked up horizon, Zelda, and this. Barely got past the starting area in horizon and switched to Zelda. After I finish that I'm starting nier and hopefully can get to horizon after that. Otherwise it's gonna be waiting behind persona 5... Too many amazing games are coming out these first few months.

I really like that Ben makes it a point to mention how the game's music enhanced his experience. Not enough reviews take that into account properly~!

Played the beta/demo. Does anyone else think it is so very game-y? Every moment screams "this is a video game", e.g. exploration and level design; combat; character design; transitions to and from bullet hell and boss fight sections. I mean, maybe it's just me, and Ben is the pro, and I do not contest the score, but... "one is not enthused" is the vibe I'm trying to get across. That said I'd pick it up for €20 because of the review (script not score, score means nothing to me).

a great review but I have a question. Wouldn't it make a bit more sense to review it on the PS4/slim then the pro? The doesn't have the install base yet as the standard PS4 yet. I do understand why you chose to use the pro which almost everyone does but for me I want to make sure there are no problems on the version that I have before I buy even if the game is great. Each of us are going to essentially use the console we have at home to do our reviews. Ben has a Pro, I have a standard, etc. -Bloodworth

Yes, but it's not trying to be anything else. It is a video game which embraces video gaming. Personally I found the genre changes to be very enjoyable. If you're on the fence about Automata, I suggest that you first watch a story summary on NieR. Its storytelling is very atypical so if that doesn't win you over then I don't think Automata will be to your liking.

I've been getting very little sleep because of this game, which just adds to the weirdness. Absolutely loving the second playthrough, though, and I look forward to next ones.

Any thoughts on playing on PS4 vs PC? I want to get it on my PS4 because I like to couch game, but Platinum games are best at 60FPS and the review didn't mention any framerate issues. Maybe there are none, the gameplay footage looks very smooth. I was on the fence as to whether I wanted to pick up Automata or Horizon after finishing the behemoth that is Zelda, but Ben's review pretty much sold me on Neir next. I can feel the hype!

Good review! Consider my hype level upgraded.

Ben, not really a huge deal and I get that the review would've been less comprehensive without it but I kinda wish you hadn't mentioned that there were multiple playable characters as I didn't know this before and it would've made for a nice surprise when I (eventually) get round to playing the game.

Stellar work from Ben 👍🏼

Having a great time so far with it. So reassuring to hear that it's going to get even better after I beat it a couple times.

cant get over that pronunciation XD

I know this comment comes up late but I didn't want to watch the review until I finished the game, and turns out I did the right thing. I gotta say, I'm not a fan of spoiling the fact that you control multiple characters, specially since you have to go through the credits multiple times in order to discover that. Surprises like the different mechanics involved with each character are ruined if by any chance you decided to watch this before playing. I am not usually the kind of person that rages over spoilers and I do understand that a review must take into account certain aspects of the game in order to make it justice, but this may be by far my least favourite review EZA has done so far.
