Ben, Ian, Brandon, whoever, stop what you're doing and read this immediately. In Nioh, DISSASSEMBLE all of your weapons and armor you want to sell BEFORE YOU SELL THEM. You get like 10x more gold for selling the raw materials than you get for selling the items themselves (to find the raw materials to sell, go to the ALL ITEMS tab, order by type I think, and look near the bottom. Be careful not to sell Spirit fragments or spirit chunks. This took me forever to figure out). You will pretty much never have an issue with gold if you do this. Also, only Soul Match weapons to get the special ability of lower-level weapons (which need to be at max familiarity, obviously). It costs basically no gold, and it always pays off later on. Never soul match weapons just to raise a weapon's level/attack multiplier. This needs to be like a PSA for all Nioh players.

Love and Respect, Allies! I was going through a list of games for the Nintendo DS and noticed that the system supports Dragon Quest IV, V, VI, and IX. Having never played any of the Dragon Quest games, I was wondering if you guys had a recommendation out of that list; or if it is hard to pick one, sell me on why I should play these games, what makes each one special. You guys got me so excited to get VII and VIII, so they are on my must-buy list, I'm just wondering and hoping that the other installments in this storied franchise are comparable to the epicness I have heard the Allies extol upon VII and VIII. Thank you for everything you do. Love and Respect.

...Google play? I can't be streaming your 5 hour podcasts, Ben!

Dragon Quest V is the best game on DS in my opinion. IV is great and VI is cool but not as strong as V. I would find it hard to recommend IX as an entry point but it does have its moments. VIII is the absolute best place to start with the series though. And the 3DS port is solid.

Frame Trap has been on Google Play for a long time. It usually takes a bit for the RSS feed to catch, but it's there. Did you search for it? You also don't have to stream it. There's always a download option in the SoundCloud link. Lot of ways to consume Frame Trap.

Kyle should definitely play Psychonauts. It's very much a Kyle Bosman game.

I must just say that I get more and more excited for Horizon! Jones knows how to get my hyped!

Anonymous

Ok the conversation about Horizon was great. My expectations are in check and I'm happy with my decision to pre-order the disc. Can't wait for the game to arrive so I can get started with it ASAP. Also, the talk about Psychonauts VR got me thinking. You know what would be a cool character to play in VR? Professor X! You can't walk, so it doesn't break the immersion when you have to move your character with a controller. Also, everything will be mind control.

My top 10 in no particular order: Breath of the wild, Mario Odyssey, Horizon, Resident Evil 7, Mass Effect Andromeda, Read Dead Redemption, Tekken 7, Persona 5, Ni No Kuni 2, Nioh. If God of War comes out id knock off Nioh.

The new camera is looking good :) Though it seems that the camera is aimed a bit low. Too much table curtain/legs. Maybe it's just me though.

Jones I am so jealous that you already played and beat Horizon Zero Dawn. I have been looking forward to this game since it got announced. I absolutly loved your review and your thought about this game and I cannot wait to play it. Being Dutch myself I am also so very proud of Guerrilla games for making such an awesome game. Also thank you Ben for hosting another fantastic Frame trap.

With Ben's comments regarding motion controls not succeeding in the long run (as opposed to VR, which is climbing "the mountain"). I think it has. We have gyros in regular controllers now (PS4, Switch, 3DS and Steam Controller). And it acts as a great supplement to standard controls. For example, Zelda first person mode and being able to fine tune your aiming, or Splatoon gyro controls. It's not in your face, but motion controls are evolving as a great supplement to standard controls. Regarding when Ian brought up about disliking games that take away control from you. I totally agree with this. I remember loving GTA San Andreas where you could make random terrain or structures into ramps to jump over with a car. It was really fun feeling the physics of the game. But then sometimes it would be an "official" jump, where if you hit the jump, the camera moves to another location to make it more cinematic, and it would also slow down time. That totally ruined the jumps. It removed the feeling of the physics which was the main reason I was hitting those jumps in the first place. And the worst part is that the game would often do this on the best ramps in the game. Regarding GOTY discussion. No talk about Xenoblade Chronicles 2? Xeno games are considered one of the best RPGs around, and you guys didn't even consider it? I guess there was a lot of games to talk about, so it's understandable that it was overlooked.

Kyle? Can you put on a VR headset whilst wearing your glasses? I'm asking because my glasses are about the same size as yours in this video.

As soon as Ian started talking about theme parks I knew I had to do some fast forwarding.

I'm calling it. Breath of the Wild will still hold up visually 10 years from now and Horizon Zero Dawn will look outdated. This is just the Wind Waker situation all over again.

While listening to the show... "oh I should buy Superhot". 3 minutes later... "oh I should I buy Rhombus of Ruin"

Great episode. In 3 hours i never felt bored. I think your game of the year will be BotW

Hey allies i wanted to make a comment, about the patreon question that was ask, talking about frustration with beating games and how many we play at a time... for me a perfect example is darks souls, and the summoning mechanic! I always try to beat the bosses by myself first i have a limit i used in DS3, that i have adapted from playing all the souls games, i give myslelf 10 tries at it, then i take a break and give it another 5 tries, if by that point i have not beaten it, ill then go and summon one person, that doesnt work i summon a second, and so on! To be honest i dont feel bad because i gave it a try, ive gone back and tried to raise my level, and it just didnt work, so i ask for help, which is just like watching a video on how to beat any situation in any game, because ultimatly the satisfaction of beating the game, out wieghs the satisfaction of just beating one part!! And to the how many games to play at once it deff matters what genre your playing for instance i always have the one multiplayer game, that i play with friends all year, then theres the single player game thats usually the freshest new game, then there is madden lol so it can deff vary, but i dont believe that you should play more then two single player games at a time, because one switching controls between multiple games is a pain sometimes, stupid muscle memory, and two you lose a little lust of the story... just wanted to chime in allies L&R J. Walter Ludwig IV, Ben this is absolutetly my favorite podcast not only on the allies but out of all the interweb!! Please keep episodes 3 hours long! P.s. super hyped for: one punch man season 2, attack on titan 2, darksouls 3 dlc!!!

My goty and surprise game of the year is "brink 2" that is all

Anonymous

I was thinking the camera was sitting way to low usuallu you can almost see the roof in the man cave... way to much table, but thats me just nip picking

Anonymous

And another thing no disrespect too the other allies because L&R for all the allies, but i love the guys in the panel this frame trap and everytime its you four, dont worry though love me some brad and huber, and the allies troll, and blood you are who i go for when genius is needed and explained

Anonymous

Oh Kyle, your advice on The Witness sure did get a rise out of me. If you're going to look up answers for the Witness, you might as well not play at all. Solving puzzles is the whole point of the game!

Anonymous

I'm surprised you're not more hyped for ME: Andromeda, but i must admit i'm a little scared it won't be one of the greats myself. However, Ben, i'm a little disappointed there was no mention of Destiny 2! Activision are certain it is coming out this year, and after all the potential that Destiny never quite got on top of, after all the expansions, i'm certain that Destiny 2 will correct mistakes, build on that potential, and be an outstanding game!

Andrew Chalmers

I can see where he's coming from. It's like the invincibility suit in Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong Country TF. If you're failing too much, they throw you a bone. Because to some people, they love going through and platforming, but they don't love it that much when it's too hard. They would basically like a "skip" button so they can move on and do other levels that they can do themselves within an appropriate amount of time (some people don't have time or simply aren't good enough, but would still like to enjoy the game). The same goes here, they want to solve puzzles, but they don't want to be stuck on one for that long. And instead of just quitting, they can basically "skip" it, and move on and solve other puzzles to enjoy the game.

Kamos

this look epic

Concerning a point kyle made near the end, I have definitely made purchases in the past due to the allies hype surrounding it. I bought the yakuza series back in the GT days because of the adoration. Haven't played them yet (well, I've started the first one) , but I'm glad I bought them when I did coz the price has inflated since I bought them. Most recently, however, I bought for honor coz of all the Huber streams. It just looked fun. I will say that the times I've succumbed to the allies hype hasn't let me down. Zelda and mass effect are my March, though. So I'm holding off on nioh, Horizon and RE7. Great episode btw. I like the long episodes coz they usually take me a few days to get through.

holy moly I got hyped for Horizon watching this

Love Frame Trap, to many random spoilers. I listen to it at work where I'm not able react to a quick spoiler. I know its loose conversation but please try to be less free with the, "Kay wait I need to make a point so quick spoiler..." I say this with, Love and Respect!
