Hi Allies!

We've got a real interesting episode of Brandon Plays Pokémon this week. With the entire map unlocked, Jones takes a healthy trip to discover anything he's missed, including an intensive search for the final gym. Where could it be? There's nothing left on the map!

It definitely seems like we have no more than two episodes left of this show. We haven't quite nailed down its successor, but we know we want to keep these vibes rolling somehow. Keep sending us ideas, we'll keep brainstorming, and hopefully we can continue to make programming as fun and exhaustive as Brandon Plays Pokémon.

Love & Respect,

Kyle

So happy to see this today! I would be ok taking a break from Pokemon, but hope you go back to it into the future. I think if you switch up the cast, Ben could lead a great discussion. Maybe danganronpa. Life is strange could be a good pick too. Significantly shorter but could be fun talking about different choices.

YESSS! A new episode of Brandon Plays Pokemon right after I get off work. I am so happy right now.

I know Jones is pumped for sun and moon, but perhaps a go through of Heart Gold or Soul Silver first? Captures a lot of the gen 1/2 changes while also familiarizing him with newer pokemon and isn't quite so drastic from Red to Gen 8!

Anonymous

Ha, Brandon I knew you wouldn't like EXP all. It's such an annoying item. Fortunately they made it much more desirable to use in future versions with EXP share.

I'd say for the next _____ Plays ____. reverse the roles. Have Kyle play something he's never played before, that he's interested in, that Jones (or someone else, maybe Ben going through a JRPG) knows very well. If it fits the criteria, I vote Kyle plays Earthbound.

Anonymous

I just finished Life Is Strange last night, and fully endorse this suggestion.

Andrew Chalmers

Just started listening, but a couple of tips (take with a grain of salt, haven't played Red/Blue since it came out in the 90's): 1. Exp. All: If this works, the most efficient thing would be to have 2 Pokemon in your party. For example, Johnny and Machop. That way, it'll only do dialogue for the 1 other Pokemon to get experience. So this might be the most efficient way of doing things. 2. Bike: Can you register it to the SELECT button? If so, it might be a good idea to advise Jones to do so.

Anonymous

Select registration didn't start til gen 2 unfortunately.

Brandon Plays FF7 but paired with Brad Ellis! We can finally end the debate between brad and brandon!

The Zero Escape series would work well for something like this. Ben would make for a wonderful host for that. Maybe Kyle could be the player (I forget if you played them already Kyle). Start with 999. The branching story paths would lend themselves to good discussion too!

I love this show so much. Did Kyle just suggest that Eevee evolves through trading though? I definitely want a debriefing episode after you've completed the game and you gotta do Cerulean Cave.

Andrew Chalmers

You almost had it right Bosman. Yellow are indeed the weirdos. Blue is actually the popular one, but they also think they're cool. They're really not though. Team Valor ftw.

Best thing ever

Just finished, great stuff as always. Kyle, I appreciate your restraint in telling too much during the series, but also appreciate saying enough is enough at the end here. No point in spinning wheels. Just please, PLEASE make sure he goes back to Cerulean cave as the champion before he calls this series finished.

Just when i thought i was going to be bored at this hotel!

This series really is the best! Thanks to the both of you.

Correction #1: TM 26 Earthquake has an accuracy of 100% if the pokemon is using the move Dig (I think) Correction #2: Kyle forgot to mention TM 18 (Counter) does 2x the damage your pokemon just received, if any. (If I remember correctly.)

Anonymous

I interpreted what Kyle said as the pokemon currently in Jones' party that Kyle just mentioned (Machoke & Gloom) evolve through trade. Kyle then corrected himself saying Gloom evolves using a Leaf Stone. Kyle never told Jones how Eevee evolves in this episode or any previous episode, if I remember correctly.

I love this series so much sucks to see it ending so soon. I'm really looking forward to seeing Jones tell us his experience getting the final badge, going through Victory Road, becoming Pokémon League Champion, visiting Cerulean Cave, and most of his battle with Kyle next week. Finally once you guys finish this series I think the Allies would love to see you both do a live stream of Brandon Plays Pokémon Snap.

Anonymous

Oh God I just realized how Kyle could totally troll Brandon in the last episode. He does the Rare Candy trick and levels all his Pokemon to 100.

Brandon K Gann

FINALLY the payoff of Mr. Jones learning of the evolutions AND trading! I'm seriously going to miss new episodes for this show when it concludes. My idea submission for the next in the series is a passing of the baton of sorts. If a game Mr. Jones has played and loves that another Ally hasn't, it could be "(Ally) Plays (Game)" or the roles can be reversed and Mr. Jones could talk to Mr. Bosman about a game that Mr. Bosman hasn't played. Just some thoughts. Keep up the great work and stay Easy fellow Allies!!

I don't think Jones will make it through Gym 8, Victory Road and the Elite Four in time, not with the pace he's been taking. If he does he's probably gonna crunch it.

Anonymous

Earthquake does double damage if the enemy Pokemon is in the middle of using Dig. It has 100 Accuracy and 100 Power, it's a devastating move.

I think Ian Plays Danganronpa hosted by Ben would be cool, albeit pretty niche. It's a page turner of a game and I would die to see Ian's heart ripped out by how brutal and weird that game is.

If not, I really Think Brandon Plays Pokemon Soul Silver would be amazing. Best Pokemon and one of the finest sequels in gaming.

NeO JD

Kyle's reaction to the Voltorb name lol I like that Brandon plays Pokemon just like I do, go straight for the kill, no long games like Kyle. I played Blue when I was about 5. Not knowing much of anything but I got through it somehow. More impressive is my cousin at the time didn't know any English and he beat the game too. This series has gotten me back into the franchise. I'm finally gonna finish Ruby and go on from there. I think I'm actually looking forward to getting a handheld for Pokemon more than any of these new console upgrades right now.

Kyle Plays Psychonauts. Make it happen

HYPE! this and table top fill me with joy like no other

Maybe do a show where you and Brandon quickly go trough some of the big changes from one game to the next untill sun and moon. Maybe talk about Missingno; talk about the cultural impact of this game ? Maybe play some Snap or Stadium; just to show Jones that the other games aren't just for kids neither, that except for the RPG's there are other good PKMN games too; The trading card game on GBC is one of the best ! This is indeed a great format; but i wonder how this will work with any other game; PKMN was so perfect for this.

How about 'Kyle Plays A Link to the Past'? ;)

I know Brandon's mostly committed to jumping into Sun & Moon, but I just want to make one last point in favour playing Gold & Silver first (whether you talk about it in a series or not). With each new Pokémon game, new items, pokémon, and systems are introduced. Usually, as is the case with Gold & Silver, the new things are introduced in a specific manner with love and care, in a way that's meant to effectively teach you about them. In Gold/Silver this involves an early story thing that I won't spoil, but I feel it's very effective. When features return in later games, they're treated as being commonplace because Pokémon players are used to them and the devs know this. So, if you play Sun & Moon, you'll have all these new things just kind of thrown at you with little celebration or story-integration. And then if you ever get around to playing Gold/Silver, all this new stuff that's carefully presented to the player will be standard and unsurprising to you. As well as that, more than any other generation, Gen 2 serves as a fairly direct follow-up to its predecessor, so it's best played directly after Red or Blue. I'm not suggesting that you play every Pokémon game in order, but with Gen 1 and 2 forming such a neat pair, it would make much more sense to play those before moving on. Not to mention the Gen 2 games are among the best. Either way, Brandon Plays Pokémon has been great. If none of what I brought up is particularly important to you, I look forward to hearing what you think of Sun & Moon.

Andrew Chalmers

One issue is, given the rate at which Brandon is playing, and the length of Gold/Silver, will he finish in time for Sun/Moon's release? Because I'm sure they won't pass up getting the new game on launch.

Anonymous

Correction: Pokemon Sun and Moon will be gen. 7.

Love that capture of the trade transaction. Classic.

Jones your killing me dude. A Zapdos with only 1 ultraball? You kidding me? I used to trow dozens at that Pokemon before I would catch it. I think I trew at least 30 last time I caught one. Anyway awesome stuff as always. This show is amazing and so much fun to watch. I think it would be very cool if Jones would go back to the cerulean cave when the time is right :)

Anonymous

I remember there being a weird GT episode of Kyle Bosman and a female colleague discussing what is under Machop's shorts. What was that about?

Anonymous

Kyle, how did you forget to tell Brandon that he needs different stones for different evolutions of Eevee? Unless, I missed you mentioning that...

Nut Kon

i was sO PUMPED when I heard Jones being so excited to get to the eighth gym and there was like 20 minutes of the video left.. I thought he was going to play it live! Would've love to see his reaction to the gym leader live lol XD pretty impressed by Jones finding the power plant and cerulean cave on his own! :D

Anonymous

So funny; he picks team valor in PKMN Go; but has no clue about the 3th legendary bird... :p

Anonymous

All the trades earlier in the game are exclusive pokémon you can only get there and the late ones are crap and that's the ones he checks out XD

Anonymous

Man, that cut to phone footage was so exciting to me for some reason. What a show!
