Great convo. Wish it was like 4 hours longer.

Got me thinking of scathing indictments of colonialism: IDW publishing’s Transformers comics is so well-crafted in its criticism of colonialism and it blows me away. In Phase 2 (the series is split into 3 parts from 2005-2018) the war between autobots and decepticons has ended and the series becomes about how a major political power rebuilds after years of civil war, and how much they’re loved by the rest of the universe. Like, Optimus refuses to call himself a Prime anymore because he realizes the legacy of the office has just been to maintain an unjust system; Megatron has renounced his beliefs and is begging forgiveness from a Galaxy that refuses to give it and he knows it; and a religious crusade made up of autobots and decepticons is trying to track down a past mission of religious figures for guidance in this new era, only to discover that they were worshiping a rose-tinted lie that led them to their current position. Seriously, the series is on comiXology unlimited and everyone should check it out.
