Note: We lost Ben's audio this week so had to make some adjustments to add it from a group mix of the episode. Originally the file was missing parts of his audio, but both versions have been replaced.

Xbox had a week of price and launch date announcements they didn’t plan for, but somehow managed to still pull off with impressive results. In the midst of this historic week in the battle for next-gen supremacy, Ubisoft tries to steer the focus away from their internal mistakes and on to a few big end-of-year releases, and Nintendo drops some musou news worth celebrating.

The Ben take on hyrule warriors is muted.

The entire audio for Ben on his Hyrule Warriors take is mia.

Can you give a time stamp? I'll pass it on to Brandon, but I'm scrubbing through and having a hard time finding the spot you're having issues with. -Bloodworth

Is about at minute 22.

It's about 22 minutes in to 32 minutes in when it comes back

Note: We're aware that Ben's audio is missing through a large portion of the podcast and we'll fix it ASAP. If there's anything significant outside of the Hyrule Warriors segment, please let me know here with a time stamp. -Bloodworth

Planning to re-upload or better off just waiting for the Sunday upload?

Gladiuswingzero

I’ll just wait for the weekend upload then, don’t want to miss Bens Zelda take

Correction: Ian mentioned dlss upscaling for the XboxSS making it look better in 4k, but DLSS is an Nvidia feature and Xbox runs on AMD gpu, remains to be seen if they have some sort of AI based upscale.

Sucks about ben's audio. Hope there is a fix for it.

No mention of Realms Deep? There were a bunch of game announcements at that event. I figured you would have at least acknowledged it happened.

I cant believe Ben’s takes on Hyrule warriors were so controversial that it warranted censorship.

Anonymous

I thought that was some kinda joke that I missed the boat on 😂

Robert I.

Thank you. I thought Ben was being cute by pantomiming his Zelda take.

Thank you. Have you replaced on podcast services? There isn't a new download showing.

Once we update the file on Patreon, that's handled automatically. There's nothing else for us to do on our end. I just listened on my app and it's playing the updated file. -Bloodworth

Sort of correction: On this episode books were discussed and I just wanted to recommend "Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation" by Blake J Harris. It's written in more of a dramatization fashion, from character perspectives rather than a historical memoir, but was based on real interviews, events, people and situations that happened during the 90s from the sides of both Sega and Nintendo. It primarily follows Tom Kalinske as he began as CEO of Sega of America and the struggles of the company battling with Nintendo being the juggernaut it grew into at the time, but pretty fairly looks at both sides and the struggles of marketing, multinational company cultural disagreements, courtroom battles and more. It's a pretty thick read, but I loved every bit of it and would recommend it to anyone hoping to learn more about the era and the people behind the decisions that were made then, as well as why certain events transpired.

Quick fix on the audio, thanks guys!

Thanks for getting Ben's audio back!

Ben’s audio is also missing in the early editions audio podcast. 😅

That's fed by the same files you're looking at here. You'll need to redownload from the feed. -Bloodworth

PS5 and nightwire next week...ooh boy.

Followup - The book is actually being made into a documentary from CBS All Access, and the trailer dropped just a few hours after I made the last comment. You can watch the trailer here: https://youtu.be/YSwMzLNmpCc I still very highly recommend the book!

A book recommendation. Not an autobiography but one of the best video game biographies I've ever read: "Masters of Doom" by David Kushner. It traces the founding and early years of id software focusing on John Carmack and John Romero through to the latter's founding of Ion Storm, and the release of Daikatana and Deus Ex. A really fascinating piece of video game history written in a very readable manner.

The discussion about whatever Ubisoft supposedly did was very off-putting. I listened to the awkwardness for a few minutes then turned the podcast off. I'm sick of all the cancel culture shit. I dont know, and I dont want to know. Why not? Because so much of this stuff has been guilty until proven innocent, or a whole load of hysteria about some minor misunderstanding.

What I find funny about this whole rally against "cancel culture" is it ends up looking a lot like cancel culture. If everyone just stopped for 5 minutes and made an effort to empathize, I'm sure could appreciate the irony of the whole situation
