It find it interesting how people are understandably upset over the limited time that 3D collection will be on for sale. Whereas my reaction was “isn’t that normal?” Well I realize it’s normal here in Japan. Everything is on sale for a limited time. From restaurants to goods/merch. Yes, it’s a marketing thing, but it’s also almost inextricably linked to culture. Japan likes to celebrate the seasons, and they do so with seasonal items. Arguably more so than the US. And this extends to anniversary events as well. I used to turn my nose up at those things, but I have caught myself making choices as a consumer based on its limited-ness. I was at Baskin Robbins (which they call 31 Ice Cream by the way) recently taking forever to choose between my usual or the limited edition flavors. Incidentally it was Pikachu flavored. Good or bad, I can’t say it’s a Nintendo thing, but more of a Japan thing.
