There are a lot of people who are very confused by Final Fantasy VII Remake because they never experienced the original. I've never technically finished the PS1 game, although I've researched it's story several times, and experienced other media in it's universe. Even with that knowledge, I have a lot of questions about what I just played, and I'm grateful to have Brad Ellis on hand to talk me through it. I think what they've accomplished here is very impressive, and I'm excited to finish the journey whenever I can. In the meantime, I'm going to finish the original on Switch.

Kinda in the same boat. I never completed the original, but I have a basic understanding of the story. I have obvious holes, but i get the basic story. This came really apparent in an interesting way because I was always really vague on JENOVA. So many people were really taken back that because I didn't fully know JENOVA's origin, the story of REMAKE and Hojo's first scene really implied to me that JENOVA WAS Aerith's Mom's remains mutated by Hojo's experiments, and showed no indication of alien backstory. I love the theorycraft going with the story of this game so much. Next few years are going to be so fun.

Very happy that you're finally playing and plan on finishing the original Final Fantasy 7, Brandon. It's far and wide better than The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time imho, because of the emotional impact and maturity of the story, characters, themes, soundtrack, etc. I didn't write this to start any arguments, only to demonstrate that what Ocarina of Time fans thought about it all those years ago, Final Fantasy 7 fans have thought the same about the original all that time too. Once you're done with Final Fantasy 7, I would love to hear your thoughts on a Cup of Jones' Editorial. L & R

I'm playing through with my wife. I've beaten the original a few times but she knows nothing about this game except for the *big* spoiler. She was pretty confused by a lot of the game, but she did enjoy it. We don't plan to play the original and just wait for the next part for her to see more of the story. We couldn't help but compare the last act to something straight out of Kingdom Hearts though.

From the GT days, it was always so frustrating listening to Jones be down on FF7 (i love FF6 too, but not as much as 7). But now his genuine newfound enthusiasm for 7R and the original with Brad really just warms my heart. This is why EZA is so great! 😊
