EDIT: Apologies for the lateness of this post. I got swept up in GOTY stuff.

I’m back. I’m 41. Time to get on with the rest of this year! Thanks to Amanda for scoopin’ it up last week. We have a lot of logistical stuff to go over today. Our GOTYs are tomorrow, and it’ll be a full day of talking about the best games from last year, so I’ll go through how all that will roll out. We announced EZX last week, and have some expected concerns about exactly what to expect from that event. We also have two weeks worth of business questions to get through. Let’s get to it.

PERSONAL QUESTIONS

MEGAN LINART - What are your thoughts on Saturday Night Fever? JONES - I’ve only seen it once in my life, when I was a teenager. I couldn’t tell you much about it other than it had much less to do with dancing than I had expected. I’m definitely due to revisit it. I wonder where I can access it most easily?

ALEXANDER ZYRYANOV - I hope your hand is fine and by the time you'll read this you will not remember what it's about. JONES - It felt better the next day and I totally remember.

MORGAN MOHALLA - What direction would you like to see Pokemon take (I believe this series is stagnating)? Personally, I would love to see a Yakuza style Pokemon adventure where you are in one large open city, you are not trying to win competitions but rather have a more unique goal like earning enough money through underground gambling/fighting to save a family members home (Happy Gilmore style). Or you could be an elderly character who wants to run a business with Pokemon that provide the fire for cooking, muscle for construction, electricity for powering high demand machines, etc. In fact the whole goal of the game could be just to convert a sleazy (Gotham style) city into a utopia with the help of your Pokemon. Your thoughts? JONES - I’ve thought less about the story behind the game, and more about how to make the world more interesting. I think the gyms are too easy, and the trainers in general are oddly placed and not as competitive as I’d expect them to be. Regardless of the theme, I’d like to see more care put into how the NPCs are placed within it. I think they could do a much better job of allowing these strangers to tell the story of the world, instead of waiting until big story moments to cram all the plot in.

ANDY GOERGEN - Every so often, I find myself rewatching reaction videos to the Breath of the Wild trailer from January 2017 - the one shown at the Switch Reveal event. I'm not sure if I've ever had a stronger emotional connection to a game trailer before. Do you have a trailer that impacted you similarly? What do you remember about that 2017 BOTW trailer? JONES - I’ll be honest, I was pretty burnt out on the weird trailer we got leading up to that point. I was surprised at all the crazy locations I was seeing, and new characters they introduced, but I had already set my expectations for how big that game was going to be by the weird glimpses we had seen previously. I don’t remember that trailer blowing me away at the time. I think it took Bloodworth, Damaini, Bosman, etc. to remind me how much it really showed.
