We have a big meeting today to look ahead at the new year, and because we’re all getting prepped for that there is not a lot to talk about at the top of today’s episode. Tomorrow night’s group stream will feature our 2020 predictions, and the week after we’re announcing our GOTYs, so all of the allies’ minds are trapped between deciding the best of 2019, and thinking of how we can maximize our efforts in the next 11 months. As always, your input here on Cup of Jones is a big part of that, so thank you!

DISCLAIMER: I take questions from the post comments on the previous week’s episode here on Patreon. You can ask a business-related question which I may answer live, or a personal question which I may answer below. If your business question was not answered live, I either replied to it in the comments, or referenced the answer in a recent episode. Feel free to inquire why your question wasn't included, or ask the same question a second time if you think I may have missed it. I will edit your comment/question before reading it live to ensure the show moves as quickly as possible. I typically grab all the questions by midnight (PT) the night before each episode, and will leave a comment when I’ve finished collecting them.

PERSONAL QUESTIONS

WU_TANG_CLAM - Not a question but I think it would be a tragedy if you (=Jones) missed this: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/490746154?collection=ugwXICRNPxWjgw&t=0h2m59s JONES - I DID MISS THAT! Kyle never sends me good stuff like this. Thank you. That was amazing. I’ve always wondered if someone could patchwork a video (or several) out of all the VO I’ve done.

STEVE S - After another play-through of RDR2, I was wondering if you think Arthur's sacrifice for John was ultimately for nothing when John came back for revenge against Micah? Arthur repeatedly said "Revenge is a fool's game", and in the post credits scenes it shows Ross and Fordham finding Micah's corpse, and that led them to John's farm. JONES - Since this is a big RDR2 spoiler I’ll leave it here in Personal Questions. I’m actually not a fan of a lot of aspects of the end of Arthur’s timeline in Red Dead, especially after learning what making different decisions amount to. I love all of John’s stuff in the Epilogue with a passion, but Arthur’s ending kind of fizzled for me. The chase, the standoffs, the depressing lead-up. Kinda disappointing.

Hi, Jones. Context: Having watched the brilliant, amazing, epic, genius, extremely emotional Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2020 - which I whole heartedly recommend everyone watch it, it made me wonder why don't the Allies do more charity streams, as well as speedrun some games. When it comes to charity, this is an area I feel Easy Allies really drops the ball hard, at least from what I can see, so apologies if I'm mistaken. Business questions: Are there any plans to make streams or projects for charity in 2020 and beyond? Would a group stream with the Allies speedrunning some games or maybe even a tournament with them trying to speedrun a single game be something you feel the Allies might be interested in? These could be done for charity. L & R PS. This is unrelated, but I have to share with you and the community, the immensely talented and a great human being, Ian McKellen, shared his "The Grey Book" journal/diary he wrote before, during, and after The Lord of the Rings trilogy filming (links below to his journal and tweet): Ian McKellen's The Grey Book: http://mckellen.com/cinema/lotr/990820.htm Ian McKellen's tweet: "20 years ago, I arrived New Zealand to begin filming 'The Lord of the Rings.' I joined the cast on January 10, 2000. During that time, I kept a journal, which today would be called a blog Perhaps you'll enjoy reading about those heady times". https://twitter.com/IanMcKellen/status/1215709543272812544 It's an incredible read that delves into his personality, how he approaches movies and roles, his mindset to become Gandalf, technical info of the crew, clothes, objects and set, easter eggs from filming, etc. There's a part in the second page that just put you into my mind, Jones. You will know it when you read it. It's a fantastic read that rivals that of any great book and just shows how much of a gift to the world is the person of Ian McKellen. I just love this man and his work so much. I thought of putting a few quotes here and there, but it's all so amazing that I don't want to ruin anything for you or anyone else. Please, just read and you will absolutely love it - as I did.

Hey just a question, what are your thoughts on Saturday Night Fever?

Yiorgos

Good to hear Brandon, looking forward to what the GOTYs are for each Ally. I am curious though from a business perspective, any cause for concern regarding Patreon? I seen the numbers are lower in the actual dollar amount and I was caught off guard. I am sure the new sponsor deal with Roost has financial incentives and future plans can yield more revenue, just EZA for me...all time high right now, you lot are killing it so the figure here on Patreon just surprised me is all.

Anonymous

To hell with 2020. What are your EZA resolutions for 2025? What future state are you trying to build to?

Anonymous

Mr Jones, I am not asking about anyone or anything specifically but, how should patrons respond if an Ally has a consistent or reoccuring tone of antagonism toward other's politics or personal beliefs? I understand that statements of opinion are just that, but it also feels like jabs towards those who feel differently happen often enough for some to take offense. I could also be too sensitive to this matter and be seeing things that aren't there. Personally, I would like to hear a balanced discussion in matters of politics and beliefs in the context of gaming entertainment or have them left out of the conversation all together. I don't expect that there have been, but have any patron exit surveys echoed this sentiment before? Morgan Mohalla

Hey Mr. Jones! I know by the time you answer this question, it’ll be a couple of weeks since the big 2020 meeting, and while I don’t want to know what was covered, I was curious about your opinion about these kinds of meetings EZA has. I know EZA has a monthly meeting as well, but I wanted to know how you feel about having these meetings in general. How productive on average are these meetings? Have there been meetings that didn’t meet the group’s goals (whether that be what may have been on the agenda or if the initiatives, for lack of a better term, “flopped”)? I’m sure there are some of the most vital things EZA does to plan out the near and far future, but do you think it’s the MOST important thing the company does? Thanks for providing your insight about these meetings and as always, have a wonderful rest of your day! Cheers and (by the time you read this late) Happy Birthday!!! QUESTION: For the yearly and monthly meetings EZA conducts, on average, how productive are they, have there been any that didn’t meet EZA’s goals or expectations, and in your opinion, are they the most important the company does to help its future?

EasyAllies

Yeah, there's nothing to worry about. The number of patrons is near last-month's all-time high. It's just that we removed the sponsorship tiers, which makes about a $5500 difference on Patreon. That will be made up for with the sponsors that come in from Roost. Along with that, some people had increased monthly pledges to help us move into the studio, and now some of those larger pledges have shifted down to levels that are more sustainable over the long term. -Bloodworth

Wow I'm pretty upset about that RDR2 spoiler, it just came out on PC and I'm playing through. Can you try to put a spoiler flag BEFORE the question next time??

Anonymous

Hey Jones, Regarding 4K TV's and next gen console, make sure they are capable of 120hz. A 120hz will be vital for consoles maybe with games like Doom that might have a 1080p120fps mode and most TV's don't. I have an idea for shows and funding. It's been a while since you guys tried funding for something which was better stuff for E3. You guys should try funding your show ideas. If you don't want to do a show you can get it funded in a stream by pitching to the audience. Multiple show ideas as stretch goals.

Anonymous

Hey jones I’m curious how you editing system works? Do you guys rent server space over the cloud or do you guys use a server? L+R Jason

Anonymous

Haven't been able to watch CoJ for a while so apologies if these have been answered: Any plans to do bettings specials around the full PS5 and Series X reveals, assuming they are separate events from E3? I remember a long time ago you said you wanted to do an editorial on why you thought Ocarina of Time was the greatest game of all time. Did you already do so? If so, do you know which episode it was? If not, do you still plan on doing that?

Kirbu

Now that Sony's confirmed to be passing by another E3, the E3-is-dead discussions are firing back up again. There's little to no confidence that the ESA will ever right this ship with everything that came out last year. My question is if E3 really did finally shrivel up, would the sort of effort that Easy Allies puts into covering it ever move on to something else? Would you all fill the space with some self-motivated effort? Or is no other gaming event or idea worth breaking out the time, dedication and suits for the allies?

Happy birthday in advance Jones!

MaxVSTheGames

Now that you had your big 2020 meeting with the other allies, can you give us an idea of when all those announcement will be made? We're all really eager to hear what you guys have planned for this year! Also, any news on Together we RPG?

Anonymous

Can we expect to see more intramural tournaments in 2020? The last time there was a tournament was Crash Bash during Easy Livin and before that was Mortal Kombat 11 in April, so 2019 was pretty light on them.

strawhatninja

Jones, I was just wondering what kind of food/drinks you mainly keep at the studio, and what are some of the allies favorites?

Right there with you Mr. Jones 41 this year myself ! Live it up and enjoy them games!

So I think it's awesome that theres been a bigger stream focus from EZA. Mike and Mike, Silver Squad, Gundam streams are always a great time. My question is has there been any efforts to push everyone to do what some people might consider normal streamer practices? A prime example would be calling out Subs and Resubs. It seems to be pretty inconsistent, and then someone will realize they haven't been paying attention to the sub notifications, and it will be like "Oh sorry! Thanks for all the subs and resubs." I ask because a lot of times someone will leave a little note with sub notification, and they'll never get acknowledged. Personally I stopped leaving a message with my twitch sub because I realized it was never being read, but I know it can be off putting to some since they like being noticed. Have a good week! L&R

I hope your hand is fine and by the time you'll read this you will not remember what it's about.

Hiya Jones, Like a couple of Allies I got married this year (April) and being a data analyst I thought it would be a fun excersise to compare my gaming habits from last year to this. I wondered, having less time playing would the quality of games I beat increase as I would be more picky? I was able to do this because I write a mini review after every game since last year (thanks Brad for the idea) so I took the data from there. So... 2018 vs 2019. In 2018 I finished 44 games. In 2019? 23! In 2018 my average score for games I finished was 5.8. In 2019? 6.7. So less has been better it seems. 2019 had 7 games scoring 9 and above. 2018 only had 6. 2019 had 7 games scoring 5 or below. 2018 I played 21 games scoring 5 or below. We have to remember that I got married in April so the first 4 months were me playing at the accelerate rate so maybe that figure will drop even more next year, we will have to see. On the up side my wife played and finished her first ever game (Cod WW2) so that was a huge plus, the things we take for granted though... Oooh boy. But that's an email for another day. Question: now you have less time to play with baby milo here, are you more picky with the games you choose to play? Has less free time affected your choices and maybe tastes in games? Congratulations for your marriages and babies and have a lovely year,

Anonymous

This was really neat to read. Thanks for providing that insight!

With all the delays recently, I was just curious how that would change your own review schedules. When do you decide who reviews what? Did any of the recent delays, like Cyberpunk, shift any schedules?

Hey Jones, hope you have a good birthday. Hope this is not too late but, I would recommend switching weekly hunts with silver squad if you guys can for the week of Jan 23rd. After the weekly reset that day, at 7pm eastern, (so 4pm pacific I think), there will be a celebration event starting. If Ben and Ian want to get in on it day one, you will need to swap streams. Just want to let you know. L&R Sean

Personal Question: I had asked you before about the direction that Far Cry should take and I believe we agreed that a Van Helsing inspired, crossbow filled, monster hunting spin-off would do the series good. What direction would you like to see Pokemon take (I believe this series is stagnating)? Personally, I would love to see a Yakuza style Pokemon adventure where you are in one large open city, you are not trying to win competitions but rather have a more unique goal like earning enough money through underground gambling/fighting to save a family members home (Happy Gilmore style). Or you could be an elderly character who wants to run a business with Pokemon that provide the fire for cooking, muscle for construction, electricity for powering high demand machines, etc. In fact the whole goal of the game could be just to convert a sleazy (Gotham style) city into a utopia with the help of your Pokemon. Your thoughts?

Jones, I'm so glad you're playing GreedFall!!! Any chance for a Don't Skip for this underrated gem? L&R!

Hi Jones! So I just have a general question and its regarding twitch streaming vs youtube streaming. I noticed in the past month, Youtube put a new "Join" button, which I am assuming is the sub button equivalent on twitch. You have around 60k followers on twitch vs 235k on youtube. Have you ever considered moving some or all of your streams to youtube streaming? Do you think if you did, you'd get more viewership but maybe less subscriptions? Just curious what you think the pros and cons of a move would be. Keep up the good work!

EasyAllies

JONES - YES. My apologies. I think I'm quicker to respond when it comes to text. I might have missed that because I wasn't going to read it out loud. That sucks. I'm sorry.

Every so often, I find myself rewatching reaction videos to the Breath of the Wild trailer from January 2017 - the one shown at the Switch Reveal event. I'm not sure if I've ever had a stronger emotional connection to a game trailer before. Do you have a trailer that impacted you similarly? What do you remember about that 2017 BOTW trailer?

Hello Big Daddy Jones! Can you give us an update on ceiling mics? The last thing I've heard was "Ian is still on it". Is that still the case? I would really appreciate it, every mic bump disturbers me deeply.
