I accidently deleted my Animal Crossing new leaf village (losing 350 hours and years of progress) when I got a NEW 3ds... That was soul crushing and felt like burying my GI Joes forever.

Kyle criticizing New Horizons for being too similar to New Leaf feels like a delayed reaction to me. People like me who have played since Wild World on DS are used to the incremental steps, and it needs no "Breath of the Wild" style overhaul. I think that line of thought is kind of dangerous to have about some franchises as it ends up pushing a franchise to become something it shouldn't. The appeal of older AC games was always their random element: You get a random town with random villagers and then the game's systems causes things to grow and change, basically for an eternity as long as you keep your save. Animal Crossing is almost like a System App to me. Once you get it, your virtual village lives its own life that you occasionally go and visit for the rest of your console's days. In fact, I had the opposite reaction as Kyle's for New Horizons this E3. I was afraid of the emphasis on Crafting and the lack of buildings at the startup of the island area. The last thing I want is Animal Crossing to turn into a full on "sim" game, where I'm the one deciding the construction of an entire town, and the focus on crafting to me suggests it's going to be a grindy and addictive title which is the opposite of the franchise's DNA of being relaxing and carefree, and where the player is 100% self-motivated without being rushed to do anything. I'm cautious about the new game, but if it's exactly like previous games that is only a good thing in my book, and then the incremental steps like windy days and hemisphere changes are there to add the next gen levels of variety rather than to overhaul the core of the experience.

Daminani's unwillingness to be just wrong sometimes is egregious.
