The overall reception to our Roost announcement has been positive, and it makes us even more excited for the future. It’s always scary to bring in outside resources, whether you really notice them as Patrons or not, and it’s comforting to know you’re willing to embrace change and move forward with us. Today’s episode has a good amount of questions asking for specifics regarding Roost, so we’ll start with those at the top. And to conclude, I’d like to talk about all the media I’ve been consuming via Disney+ and what I think of the service altogether. Lots of questions this week. Let’s get to it!

PERSONAL QUESTIONS

ALEC CHURCH - You've never watched Episode IV with Amanda? How Jones? How?! JONES - After she watched Episode III with me in the theaters I didn’t feel like I should take my time in how much Star Wars I want to force her to absorb. She had seen the original trilogy, and liked it enough, so it never really came up. I also watched them hundreds of times in the 90s, so I didn’t necessarily need more viewings to call up good memories. The soundtracks, however, have been on a constant loop my entire life, and are probably my favorite thing about Star Wars as a whole.

ASBO ZAPPRUDER - The new trailer for Cats came out and it has absolutely no singing in it. What's up with that? JONES - Don’t get me started on the advertising for that movie. They are dropping the ball so hard on bringing in non-believers. I’m not here to say it’s going to be great, because I’ve long scratched my head when it comes to how that musical could be adapted to film, but they’re just not doing themselves any favors, aside from showing how incredible the dancing is going to be. You have Jennifer Hudson and Taylor Swift, you idiots! LET THEM SING!

DANIEL RIBEIRO - On a scale of 1 to 10, what's the score you would give to The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and Venom (2018)? JONES - The Amazing Spider-Man (6/10), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (5/10) and Venom (7/10). Venom is a weird movie, but very refreshing for me. I’ve never seen a superhero movie quite like it.

MICHAEL YAU - Thoughts on the Tesla Cybertruck? JONES - It’s weird and I kind of love it. It reminds me of the tank from Aliens. I don’t see myself ever needing or driving one, but it would certainly pull my attention if I saw one zipping down the street. A friend of mine used to work for Tesla, guiding tours at their central plant, and he told me lots of wild stories about that company. It’s fun to see them do odd things, and watch the auto industry react in curiosity and horror.

Could I have a clarification? Nothing is happening to the 25 dollar Podcast Producer tier, right? They'll still get the end of the month shout outs?

EasyAllies

Correct. The new tier just gets them more often and on more shows. -Bloodworth

Thank you so much, Jones. I have never been more in agreement about anything you have said than what you said today about From Software games. I have never finished a From game, and it has nothing to do with the difficulty, I just get bored with them because I simply don't care about what's happening in the world, and so there is nothing there to pull me along so I stop playing at like the 80% mark.

VGJunky

Shoutout to Jones knowing Salacious Crumb Also, you just know that by one person bringing up that they don't want to call it cross examinations in Hall of Greats, Kyle will be prompted to come up with an extremely dumb name just to annoy people

Anonymous

Don't know if its been asked before, but have you considered putting the link to the written version of a review in the patreon post? I prefer to read yall's reviews and it would just speed up the process for me personally. L&R Riley Donoho

Hey Mr. Jones! Now it’s December, I was curious when the EZA winter break will begin, how long it will last, and if anything is being pre-recorded to fill some of the gaps (for example: the main podcast maybe?). I was looking at the website’s schedule trying to figure out how many weeks are left of operation for 2019, and I also realized, will any Allies stay behind to do any unannounced, spur-of-the-moment random stream here and there? Just something I was curious about and even if it’s a solid three weeks of absolutely nothing, thanks regardless for answering. As always, have a wonderful rest of your day and Cheers! QUESTION: When will EZA’s winter break start and is there going to be any activity (pre-recorded content, a random unannounced stream by an Ally, etc.) during that time? Also, is there a target date on the other end to resume operations?

Mhee12

Sorry to bother Mr.Jones, but what's the song from the Business Questions Intro? It's been in my head and it's quite good.

Re: the "Cross Examination" portion of HoG, may I suggest Devil's Advocacy? A bit over the top, but it precisely captures the spirit of what you guys are trying to do. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_advocate#Origin_and_history

Mr. Jones, This is the time of the year when it seems that the pressure is on! Review season, Award Season, Holiday Season, Vacation Scheduling, Roosting, Phase-4ing etc. How do you manage all this for EZA? Does each member naturally step up and knock it out of the park, or is it a struggle to fit it all in, leaving some work unfinished? If it is a struggle, who decides what gets cut to make sure the important stuff is handled in a timely manner? If there were the resources to do it all and then some, what more would we be getting? Respectfully, Morgan Mohalla

I complained about cross-examination. TBH, I am very down for an extremely dumb name. Anything but something as lazy and unimaginative as "cross-examination" -- which sounds super lawyerly, except anyone who has ever watched the back half-hour of any random Law & Order episode will tell you is just straight up wrong. Don't worry, though. Kyle would never switch to an extremely dumb name. He holds the fake sanctity of Hall of Greats much too dear. Look at all of his futzing over the rules and procedures every episode, voting on this or that last minute detail, proclaiming what is acceptable and what is not. I welcome Mr. Bosman to try to troll us. But he'd just be trolling himself. (P.S. I hope everyone recognizes these rude critiques as jokes. I love HoG.)

Howdy Jones, This is my first time ever commenting on cup of jones. it's a bit long but i hope it's worth your time. I know that you love Disney and ,occasionally, there's always some question that sets you off, blessing us with your Disney lore, whether it's about movies or just the company in general. I ALWAYS really enjoy these bits, specially because it's so close to your heart and childhood; I always appreciate any background origin story for any of our Allies. BUT, when it comes to you, it always feels bittersweet for me because you can't go on too much about it - you have to move on to other questions, podcast segments, etc. and it always gives me that feeling of chasing a bus i could not catch "BUT WAIT I WANNA HEAR MOOOORE". So, in comparison to most of the other allies, considering the shows that they are doing, they all have something in regard to what they are most passionate about - like Damiani and his mostly nintendo related podcast, Ian doing reaction shots reflecting his passion for movies and expressing his creativity throughout all of EZA content, you with Trailer Jones, and bunch of other examples that would take too much time to list. It just seems such a waste to not use your passion for Disney and transform it into content were you can be free to fully express yourself in all matters regarding Disney. Whether it's about unknown facts regarding the company, the dark period during world war II, the amazing 2D animated movies they produced, the legends surrounding Walt Disney, and much, much more. I just want a show with you expressing your love for Disney. And what better way of bringing the amazing Amanda Troop for more EZA content than have her join you in for, maybe, a podcast in which you just discuss your experiences in DisneyLand, your favourite movies, maybe ranking them..I can already see you guys sitting in comfy sofas with mugs and a fireplace in the back. Plus it's christmas and there's disney+ always being mentioned every week. It just seems (to me) the planets are aligning perfectly for something like this. To further encourage this, i remember not so long a go, there was a discussion in a Easy Allies podcast that trigger a conversation about disney 2d animated films and i remember that there were a lot of nice comments asking for some video where you guys just talk about those movies. Can't wait for your response. I love you guys, give my best to Milo and Amanda, L&R

Hey Jones, just wanted to throw some info your way regarding a physical release of Box Peek. I'm pretty sure Bosman discussed it on one of the season 1 Q and A's, but it isn't a possibility due to the music rights with Epidemic. I believe he said the rights are good for YouTube but don't allow for physical sale of anything using Epidemic music. Hope this helps!

Anonymous

I would buy into a kickstarter to buy the rights to the music for a physical release. I wonder if Kyle would consider that.

Jones, I'm all out of questions for this year, so just wanted to say thank you for another great year at Easy Allies. I hope you and the rest of the allies have a great holiday season, and I look forward to asking you more questions next year.

Hei! I don't have a question for you per se, but after watching the latest Fiasconauts (Nov.24) I must say that Jessica Lynn Verdi is a treasure! Based on her words in the first part of the aformentioned Fiasconauts episode, she expresses interest in streaming and joking about being “underwinged” by the Easy Allies. I am not sure if she is serious or not, but this sounds like a perfect match with the Easy Allies. Have you thought about inviting her to more of your streams, or help her start streaming? I can easily picture her on the Tuesday group stream and a part of your stream teams. I guess you guys are not looking for a tenth ally at this point, but this “diamond in the rough” is probably worth a serious consideration. Otherwise, keep it up, and I love the idea of a add-free podcast!

Morning Jones! Not sure if you have this detail yet, but will the sponsorship income from The Roost make up for the decrease in the Patreon monthly earnings that we've seen over the past few months? Do you know how much per month these sponsorships will pay?

Anonymous

Hey Jones, I know this is more of a Twitch Chat Mods issue, but maybe you can pass this one along for me if you agree after we talk about it. So blah blah blah my Twitch Sub has lapsed for this month for a short period for reasons, and I've been hanging out in chat as I usually do with the Offline Crew. During this time I've become heavily affected by a problem you don't realize is a problem until it is personally affecting you, instead of others who's names you don't recognize, because they're new to the channel instead of the regular subs. That problem is Moobot being overly aggressive towards nonsubscribers. I've seen this on multiple occasions during streams in the past where nonsubscribers would try to post links, sometimes links that the Allies themselves asked for, but Moobot sees this action as spamming links and times the person out with increasingly harsh suspension periods. From what I can tell, it isn't only affecting the same link being posted multiple times. It doesn't even have to be a link from the same website, say Imgur by example. It also seems to have no cooldown period, where if the person hasn't posted a link in 30 minutes, it becomes okay with them posting a new link, no instead it doesn't matter how much time has passed since the last link they have posted. Even if hours have passed. If a nonsubscriber tries to post ANY two links into the chat, they start getting suspension time outs, and the more they get timed out like this, the longer they get timed out like this. This creates an environment for nonsubscribers where they pretty much can never post links in chat. They get one for their lifetime in the Easy Allies chat. I hope you can agree with me that this is ridiculous and hopefully an oversight by the mods rather than a push towards getting people to subscribe. This is very obstructive to growing the audience when even harmless links from people trying to discuss stuff with chat get slapped with automated penalties such as this. I'm sure this was a tool to try and help the mods, and I'm sure it has been useful before, but Moobot is clearly calibrated incorrectly and way over aggressive currently in this aspect. I feel bad for not caring enough to bring it up before now, but part of that is not realizing just how bad it was until I was the target of it, and don't worry I'll be subbing myself again soon enough. Even then though, I don't think Moobot should be left like this in the future for all the people who only support via Patreon or simply newcomers dipping their toes into a new thing.

Hey jones just curious if you guys would ever consider doing a monthly Podcast where 2 Allies talk about a game they really like with 1/2 other streamers or reviews.

Anonymous

Honestly, I welcome the ad free version. The current podcast half time is fine and I don't skip it. However, in the rest of podcast world, I am sick and tired of hearing the same copy read for the same handful of companies, half of which only operate in the US. It's difficult to skip when driving, so ad free version me plx.

I want to hear more Scoop of Troop covers of Disney songs.

Brandon, I want to compliment you. I think your community management skill is the best I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Each time you say “No” to someone’s request, you somehow create a feeling that not just this person’s opinion matter, but also that sending this opinion to you isn’t pointless. I’m a rational person, I know that you can’t make everyone happy and that you will go with the majority when you make yes-or-no decisions, but you still make me feel like sharing my isolated opinion means something. I remember that you wanted to hire a Community Manager, but I doubt that you’ll find anyone who’ll be as good as you.

Heya Jones, No, I get what you're saying but seriously though, if Phase 4 of Easy Allies went to a pool hall in Illinois a century ago, would it start using language like "Swell" or "So's your old man"?

Anonymous

Hey, Jones. This isn't a question, but I know you and Blood read these, so I'm gonna use it for feedback. Those post-launch impressions videos you made for Stadia, Ghost Recon and Need for Speed were really good. They're somewhere between a review and a spoiler mode and it's nice to hear impressions from more than one Ally. They're great. That's it! Love & Respect

Hi, Jones. I was gonna post my The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, and Venom reviews, but since you talked about Batman (1989), I decided to post its review, as well as Batman Begins (2005) to counter balance something really horrible with something really brilliant. It's also a way to contrast the things I mention about Batman (1989), that Batman Begins (2005) nails it perfectly. I didn't change anything from when I wrote it over a month ago, so while I understand the things you said in the last CoJ, you will see me mention things like "I know you love this movie", etc. I said it because I have watched everything - yes, everything - EZA has ever produced with the exception of Tabletop Escapades and most livestreams, and I can't remember you ever talking anything bad about Batman (1989) until the last CoJ. On the contrary, every time I remember you talking about it was in exaltation and reverence. Though I didn't write this to discuss any of this, you explained everything already, I'm only explaining why I believed that you loved this movie so much. Again, just a warning that I didn't change anything from when I wrote it last month. With that out of the way, let's get down to it. This time I put the scores inside the link along with the full reviews, and my question is what's the score you give to both Batman (1989) and Batman Begins (2005) on a scale of 0 to 10? Better to write it down before looking my scores. Full reviews: https://textuploader.com/1ognp Also, sorry for this second question, but it's better to know beforehand, do you know when the last CoJ of 2019 will be? I understand you may not have a specific date in mind, just asking if you have planned anything or have any idea. I have a great question/request that would fit with the holidays and it would be best asked on the penultimate episode of CoJ of the year, because I want to do something special for the last CoJ of 2019 - some light teasing. Always nice to find someone that agrees with me, but I still completely understand how people get lost in the depth of those worlds. - JONES

Thank you! I want to compliment you on legitimately questioning our motives and decisions in a way that is respectful and productive. You're engaged in this Patreon like few other patrons, and your contributions have made me more confident in the choices we've made. Thanks for keeping me on my toes! - Jones

EasyAllies

NICE. They don't feel too different to us than doing episodes of Frame Trap, so I'm glad they feel distinct to our audience. As we've said before, we can't promise when we'll do more of them, but we'll definitely fall back on the format when it fits our coverage. Thanks for the feedback! - Jones

Hey Jones, is EZA planning anything for the 1 year anniversary of having a studio, or are you just sticking to the celebrations of the normal EZA anniversaries? I guess it would be kind of weird having two anniversaries a few months apart, but maybe you could at least do a nice editorial on Cup of Jones around that time talking about and showing off the changes that have been made over the course of the past year, both in terms of the physical studio and the way EZA has changed because of it, along with some pictures and/or video. Just a thought. Love and respect, Josh Read.
