I have been craving a good racing game lately. So much so that I’ve been playing Forza H3 and 4 the last month. So it was safe to say I was looking forward to NFS Heat, and then when people were giving it praise, I got more excited I decided to sign up for EA Access, played 4hrs worth and am soooooo happy I didn’t Pre-Order the game. It’s like Ghost haven’t played a racing game in the last decade. The actual driving mechanics are so clunky and completely unrealistic feeling. The whole “drift” mechanics are so cheesy, it takes zero effort to pull one off, just the press of a button, and BAM I’m completely sideways, in full control of the car. At first I thought it was settings, so once they fully opened up (whatever that’s about) I still couldn’t find a decent setting. Then I thought it was the car/upgrades, and changed those, hoping they’ed be better, and nope. Still just really simple early PS3/360 feeling gameplay. I love the day and night premise, story was totally F&F rip-off, and I loved it! But after spending the last two months with Forza:H, it’s clear the studio has no idea what they’re doing. Maybe it’s Frostbite, maybe it’s something else. But Heat feels like a complete step backwards. And that sucks because I’ve been playing them since Need for Speed II. I’ve excepted the bad one’s, (Porsche Unleashed, Undercover, The Run) But the last 3 have been completely horrible, and I’m over it. Either get Criterion back (if any vets are left), stop forcing Frostbite, or put the series on hiatus. I’m done having my heart broken by EA....
