Excellent review! Very clear cut and concise.

Ben has yet to be wrong for me. If he gives it an 8 I'll try it.

Damn good review. Well written and edited.

Ben doesn't sound very impressed.... I can't believe I am second guessing buying this game, but after the review, it just sounds like a boring walk simulator.

Anonymous

Right? I don't get an 8.0 if there is "intentional boredom" and not much payoff at the end. I mean look at the messy inventory menu. Will wait for sale!

shoutout to the ihinck ladder I saw in this review and others, that IS ian, right?

Thanks for the review. Can't wait for the Spoiler Mode, which I believe Bloodworth said they would do, during his A Plague Tale: Innocence livestream - another great game.

It looks like it has enough going for it to be a memorable experience despite having some elements drag it down a bit (like a 9 that gets dragged down a bit). That's an 8 type review if I ever heard one.

Judging by this review and Danny O'Dwyer's, I have a sneaking suspicion I'm going to really like this game.

Such a steady, disciplined review, Ben! Really appreciate the line you walked here. Edit: I wrote that before watching IGN's review, and it's even more true afterward. Really solid work, EZA.

Honestly this game seems like it was made for me, from the moment I saw the gameplay I knew this was something I want to shut off the lights and get lost in, after a stressful day. I have never played a Kojima game before so I’m so excited to play this game that is completely unshackled. Great review! The script was absolutely superb! And Ian I gotta know was that your ladder you placed? Or just a screen name that looked like your name cuz if it was that’s so cool 😄

Very nice review, Ben. It confirmed my expectations of the game. I will probably hold off on playing it until at least after Pokémon and Star Wars.

I cancelled my preorder for Death Stranding. While the game's visuals and style are absolutely mesmerizing, the gameplay just seems like something that I won't enjoy.

This is an art house game if I have ever seen one. This game is going to be like watching a surreal indie film but with a AAA budget and advertising. With how divisive reviews have been, it seems like it's beyond the actual "is the game good" question and rather, are the things that are intentionally done, at least done in the way it seems intended to be? I'm not sure if that makes sense to anybody but I'm excited to try this game and I will either love it or it will not be my cup of tea but unlike something like No Man Sky, I will respect this game regardless of if I "like it" or not.

I was hoping the review would address the claim that this would be a new genre of game. It sounds unique for sure, but I wonder if it is unique enough to be called its own genre...

Regardless of the other parts the boss fights being bad truly lets me down. No excuses there with who worked on this game they should of been great.

'Delivery becomes a job, and like any job, there are times when you don't want to do it' As far as I know this seems to pin it down right on! Great review

Extremely well put together review. You guys should be proud.

Sounds like as much an 8/10 as Astral Chain was. Like, not really at all, but it does excel in some aspects while incredibly mediocre in most. But good text.

Great review! I was interested in this game because of Kojima.. but I think I’m going to wait awhile. I’m glad Kojima is trying something new, but I’m really interested in his story telling and I don’t think I want to play simulator heavy game , just to get through a interesting story. Awesome review Ben! Your the man

Reviews for this game are all over. Kotaku swears the game is the next messiah, and some other websites are saying its the best game ever, yet others are saying its barely worth a 7.

That’s what makes the game a must play in my book. Art is divisive sometimes. I was going to wait for the PC-version but I don’t think I can. Dusting off the old PS4 Pro next week for sure!

Can't wait for the Frame Trap on this one

Danni-H4

Ben's script is indeed very well written. Full program.

Ben, I watched the review twice through just to soak up the writing. Really appreciate how you’ve framed this game. By all accounts you gave it a fair score while still making it sound like a game that is a must play. That takes skill.

I am still finding my groove, (6 hours in) but so far I am really enjoying it. However I would suggest this game should NOT be rushed... It's not about trying to get to the end as fast possible- it's about learning and enjoying the journey along the way.. I hope less enthusiastic reviewers can understand that, otherwise they are greatly missing out.
