Update: This Week's Episode of Friend Code (Patreon)

So what happened with this week's Friend Code is that we didn't get the audio recording portion like usual. However, after dumping the cam footage, there is really, really...bad audio (I have to boost it by like 25db just to make it audible). This means it is technically possible to post this week's episode and you can still hear the conversations, but the audio quality will not be at the quality you're used to.

If you feel this is acceptable, I can release this episode as-is on the usual schedule (Sunday/Tuesday). If people feel this is unacceptable, I'll just scrap this episode.

Edit: Sorry I didn't think to make a "Post this episode for Patrons" only option". I think this honestly would be the best option, so as long as Post episode wins out, I'll post it Sunday for Patrons only.

I’m really okay with poor audio, but I think about it like a studio canceling a game to protect their brand from suffering as a result of a bad product. Lol

Yea, I wouldn't want it to reflect poorly on EZA to those less forgiving. But any prayer of salvaging a discussion from any EZA show when it would otherwise be skipped isn't one I'd pass up on.

I have an alternate suggestion. Don't make it public on YouTube. It's bad. Put it up unlisted on patreon for free. Then on the next friendcode, just mention it on there that it is available for free on patreon. Or put a link to the unlisted vid on YouTube. If people want to see it, they can. Don't scrap everything.

I wouldn’t want it posted publicly, because I would want to protect the EZA brand. Hate to have this on YouTube and it be somebody’s first impression, even if you added a disclaimer at the beginning.

I say post it. If someone finds it unacceptable they can just skip it. People love PrE3 discussions so it would suck if this was scrapped completely.

I would post the episode on Patreon. Maybe open to all, but unlisted on youtube so you can make it super clear what happened in the patreon post. I think its never worth it to throw away that much work but your call.

I've listened to new podcasts with worse audio. So, I can take it. Also, I'd add a short pre audio/video to explain what happened and to expect bad audio.

What about the Obvious June 2019 Pokémon Direct Episode? You might want to keep this in mind when figuring it out. Would Ian being there help with the Audio?

If you're uncomfortable with releasing it in full, you can just leave it unlisted and post a link on here for the people who want to watch it like this.

Keep it Patreon exclusive or something. Us, the patrons, are diehard fans and will watch anyway. But EZA will get a lot of new traffic for E3, and you don't want to give them a bad impression.

Post it. Make it clear in the title or at the start of the video that the audio was lost. Shit happens. Don’t make it ‘exclusive’ to patrons haha.

Yeah I'm in the don't make it public camp. If anything, you could make the link public on a patreon post, just not to average subscriber in their YouTube feed.

Thanks for asking, Damiani. The suggestion for Patron-only makes sense, and I found it perfectly listenable, if not ideal. If you do put it up for general consumption, I'd stick a disclaimer at the beginning.

I agree with those worried about putting a sub standard episode out on the wider internet. These things happen. Appears I'm in the minority though judging by the poll results.

It's very echoey, but still listenable. Better to post it and let people make their own minds up if they want to keep listening. I'd definitely still watch it!

While the audio's not great, it's better than having no episode at all IMO, as it'd be such a shame for your guys' time to be wasted like that. These things happen, and while I love the high quality of EZA videos, and wouldn't want to see a drop long term, I have no problem struggling through an episode with a technical glitch as I know you didn't do it on purpose (or did you?) 😏

I've heard far worse audio quality, post it up. Like a tin can with string quality. Thankfully I have a good setup to listen to it. No sense in throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Loving seeing all the support and love the community is giving. I voted for posting it with the bad audio, since you can get used to it after a while and I'm sure the discussions were great. Accidents happen, but how we deal with them is what matters. Damiani, you and the Allies will always have our support. L & R

Posting it for Patrons only is a great idea. We're already supporting you and know this is a rare issue. If you were to post it publicly it might put off newcomers. To quote Hulk, "I see this as an absolute win!"

Obviously, post the episode, at least for Patrons. I can understand if front facing for the company, it would be pretty bad look to any potential new viewers finding Easy Allies for the first time, but on Patreon you have much more direct conversations. One thing I do suggest, to avoid this in the future, is something similar to what I do but on a much more professional scale. So I have two versions of the audio for my podcast. THere is the high quality, amazing audio from the at2035's, which is similar to I believe the at2020's you guys are using? Or are they the 35's? Can't tell as they look identical. Anyways, that's our preferred audio quality and it's super crisp and just the way you want things. However, once in a blue moon something happens. Maybe the mixer died, or something happened on the software side of things. There are a zillion issues that can crop up randomly, including the all too obvious "user error" when you don't have someone in the actual recording room - which I don't since everyone that "works" for me is on the show so I have to do testing ahead of time and hope I didn't screw anything up. Anyways, the backup audio is from the direct recording on the camera. However, after having this happen one time, I decided just using the crappy audio from the camera itself is not acceptable. So, now I have an external mic hooked up to the camera. What I would suggest you guys do with your more professional setup, is get a couple "boom" mics hooked up to your equipment and place them just off camera above you guys. Maybe 3 if your set can allow it, and have those mics simply feeding direct audio to the camera recording. That way, should something like this happens again, you will have usable, extremely clean, audio from the boom mics in the footage as a backup. I have learned as a YTer having backup audio solutions is extremely important. Maybe you already have that setup but I don't remember seeing it in your studio tour. I just it's a little bit of an investment to do that right for something that ideally, you never need to use. But I can tell you, as I am sure you know right now, that it is invaluable for the one to 3 times per year you end up really needing it. It helps keep the quality high, even if it's not quite as high as the good mics.

Honestly, I think you should not have made this public and put it up for a vote. People want the episode now, But it will be forever on your channel as an almost unwatchable episode. We are trading the short term benefit of a few days saved for the long term damage of bad quality content here. This isn't a live reaction, where we don't want to lose the initial reaction. This is also not great for growing the channel or keeping brand new viewers. And isn't Friendcode a podcast too? What about those walking around town with headphones, trying to listen to this? I highly recommend disregarding this vote and re-shooting it. L&R

They already said in a previous post that they can't re-shoot it due to scheduling conflicts which is the main reason I want to hear it. Also, I feel like "damage the channel" is a bit dramatic.

I think it's fine :) I've watched and listened to enough podcasts from elsewhere who have fallen victim to the same audio goblins. You honestly will get used to it after 5 minutes.

As a youtuber, I feel your pain. Unfortunately I wouldn't want for new viewers to get a bad impression of the quality that Easy A is known for. With that said, I'd delete and re-record it. Sometimes you get a better take the second time!

I really don’t think posting it with a heads up would damage EZA’s reputation or deter many people. Maybe I’m being silly but it seems like a lot of people just don’t want non-patrons to have it. Let everyone decide whether they want to watch it.

I voted Ditch this Episode, patron only could work but it's not up to standards. Tech difficulties happens, sometime you just have to let it go. Another way would be to re-record a super short maybe 3 min summary of what you guys talked about with just an overdub from you. Kinda like what you did during your stream, but using that video.
