Borderlands 3 has had its big reveal, Mortal Kombat 11 launched, and May the 4th has passed. But before all that went down I got Bloodworth and, in a rare Trailer Jones appearance, Amanda, to analyze the way these projects sold themselves before these big events. It's interesting to have a teaser, a reveal, and a launch trailer in the same episode. It gives us the chance to see things from both bookends; the beginning and the end of a campaign.

Trailer Jones - Borderlands 3, Mortal Kombat 11, and Star Wars Episode IX

A tease, a reveal, and a launch day blowout are featured in this look at April's advertising with Daniel Bloodworth and Amanda Troop. How do you deal with anticipation from the start of a game's campaign to its finish? And what can we expect of each of these projects based on what we've seen so far? That Star Wars trailer just does nothing for me. These last two movies have been pretty bad and this one looks no different. A part of me can’t help but think these movies would have been panned and forgotten like many a sci-fi movie if it weren’t for the Star Wars name.

now that's a HOTTAKE full of flame (and I respectfully disagree. I love the new Star Wars movies)!

Cool. I really dig this show. Would love to see yall tackle the style of raunch comedy trailer that Squanch Games or CrowsCrowsCrows is trying. Like specifically: the release date trailer for Trover Saves the Universe is a little off putting with it's profanity, but i really dig the kind of quiet angry meta commentary on game trailers and what people expect from their company. ("Alright. Annnnd that's how we do it.") https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY8H3Xef2lg - but also curious what you all would make of the unreleased trailers Squanch put up. Hard to find, but in the 58 minute long "Comedy in Games" video on their youtube channel, you can find a trailer concept at 46.5 minutes, and another at 51.5m. I think these concepts are way better than the kind of safe approach they took in the end. I feeeeel the tension between Roiland and the investors. Ultimately, their extremely uncensored and cynical take on how to promote a decently budgeted game is refreshing. yeah? no? hmmf.

Did you see the Stephen Kings IT 2 trailer Jones? I've never seen a movie trailer like that before. It's pretty amazing. https://youtu.be/ainv8UizP2M
