This was our highest payout month so far, and with all the preparations getting finalized for our third anniversary event, the company is buzzing with excitement. Some people have asked what games I'm reviewing next, so for today's editorial I'm going to look ahead at the rest of 2019 and figure out what games I'm definitely going to make time for.

God of war fullplaythrough for the love of everything!

Let's start this CoJ on a fun note. You're dropped in a stereotypical survival video game world, think Subnautica or The Forrest. You get to bring ONE real life item with you (aside from phones) to help you survive what would it be?

Anonymous

Depending on the Allies who will be doing the full play through I think it would great to do a game that none of them have played before. This way it’s kind of refreshing for everyone instead of just doing the old standbys like God of War and the like.

Sekiro505

I vote for Re5 for a full playthrough. Now you guys have the studio. Id love LEVELS to come back. Maybe as a tier once per month. It really is one my favorite series back in the day .

Bokthand

Very cool. Does this mean the whole gang will be there for the playthrough?

Shazz

Yesss I'm so excited 😁

Megan Linart

My real comment now, Have you guys expressed any interest in doing more Board Game streams, or even doing something like building Jigsaw Puzzles and just talking about life. I think this could be very fun and give some more diversity instead of just being game focused most of the time. Just a thought because I love board games.

Hello Jones. The led lights in your studio are nice, and it is interesting to see the color combinations that you guys have tried so far. So I would like to know: If the colors were only up to you, with no regard for what has ben tried so far or what the others prefer, which colors would you associate with the different shows? What color does the podcast have? Frame Trap? Huber Syndrome? Friendcode? Trailer Jones? Spoiler Mode? Tabletop Escapades? An E3 Live Reactions stream? Maybe you can imagine certain other changes or props with those events as well? This is your personal save file of The Sims: EZA Edition. The decoration that you chose only has to satisfy YOUR taste and associations! OH, and by the way: I just wanted to highly agree with last week's comment, that a solution where the microphones in the streaming space are suspended from the sealing would be really great. This might be hard to understand for those who listen to the streams over speakers or mobile phones, but as someone who listens to them with headphones, let me say this: Every time somebody or something touches the microphones, I am at the brink of throwing off my headphones and jumping out of my seat. And as long as the microphones are placed on the ground, this will keep happening. So I really hope that through continuous research, you will find a solution to eliminate that factor. Love & Respect, Snowcone Guy

Hey Mr. Jones! I was wondering if there was any progress on getting an updated intro video on the main Patreon page? I know in the past there were conversations about getting a new one in place, then the fall release schedule hit, and of course the studio became a reality so it understandably fell by the wayside. And subsequently, now EZA has been in the studio for a little over a month, has everything started to fall into a comfortable routine, or is there still some final things everyone is getting used to? Thanks as always for taking my question(s) week in and week out and have a wonderful rest of your day! Cheers!

Hey, Brandon. I have a quick question for you... Do you think there is a chance the Easy Allies will ever have a meetup in Canada? I am sure there wouldn't be any formal plans, but do you think it could be in the cards eventually? I know this would be an international meetup, but Canada is pretty nearby, so it would be a bit of a toe dip (in regards to international meetups, at least).

When you peer off into the future - either the near or far distant - do you ever foresee a day where all the allies go into "work" at the studio (not necessarily this current studio) every weekday for ~8 hours? Do you WANT it to be like that? As it is now, it almost feels like there's this lack of being "all in" compared to a more typical full-time job like GT, since most non-recording work is still done from home. Not entirely fair, I know, but I'm curious where you want EZA to be, not in the months ahead but the years. L&R, Josh Read

Hey Jones, you absolutely nailed the pronunciation last week ("is-uh-gear-ee"). My question this week is when did you realize that what you're doing now is what you love? Secondly, when will we see Brandon Jones interview people at E3 with a puppet a la Triumph the Insult Comic Dog? As always thanks for answering questions from your patrons. Love and Respect. <3

Hi Jones, I have a quick personal question. I know you have meantiones that you were a theater kid in school. I was also wondering if you played an instrument in concert or marching band? And if so which instrument? L&R Michael Bologna (Bah-lone-yah) (sounds similar to Lasagna)

Hey Jones! What is your personal approach to networking? I’m not always comfortable doing it, and would rather just make friends with people, but I know it’s an unavoidable aspect of a lot of entertainment industry jobs. Since you’re the resident brand manager, how do you personally strike a balance? L&R Tahk0

Hi Jones, Here are the three musicals I'd like your thoughts on this week: - Big River - Dreamgirls - Chess

Hi Jones, I have a business question: I know you don't want to get into the allies' salaries, but I do have a more general question. At what point will you all get a raise? When the patreon numbers go up and we reach new goals, as we did this month, does all of that additional money go toward production of that new show? Or does some of it get put away in savings for the future? Or does it sometimes trickle down into the allies' salaries? Thanks for reading my question :)

We often worry about Ben and Blood doing too much work, and forget about another ally. Yet he produces Easy Update, Reaction Shots, Fiasonauts and never skipped an episode, even on holidays. He edits Reviews, Top 10s, Betting Specials and other special features. He weekly joins Easy Allies Podcast and Tabletop Escapades and also makes regular appearances on Friend Code, Frame Trap and Trailer Jones. And he also is responsible for the tech in your studio and even repairs its walls. Isn’t that too much for poor Ian?

Anonymous

What's with the weird triple popping noises spaced throughout the audio? Sounds like a sound effect.

Anonymous

I have a hot take for you Jones, what if you remove the scoring on Trailer Jones all together. Something felt off about writing it, maybe you needed a better signal or line of dialog to stop everyone from talking as they write the scores. I don't really watch for the scores, more interested in everyone's thoughts about the trailer. I also don't like people telling you how to run your shows. Was nice of you to experiment but please do what you feel is right. No need to read this on CoJ, just my 2 cents. Take Care.

Hi Brandon, I was wondering, is there a certain game, or games, that you like very much, but no one will ever speak of ever again? My example would be Splinter Cell: Double Agent, specifically a version for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube and Wii. It's completely different game than the one with same name on X360, PS3 and PC, and if this "next-gen" version got some attention not so long ago when it was added to xbox backwards compatibility, the other version is as good as dead. It's not being sold digitally, there's not going to be a remastered version, there's no original xbox emulator on pc that is capable of emulating it with that sweet 4K resolution and so on. Probably the best way to play it is to use PCSX2 or emulate it through xbox 360. But it is sad that the game is held hostage on these old consoles. So, to reiterate my question, do you have a game that is near and dear to your heart, but it's very hard to find and play these days, and there's no huge following around it?

Hey Jones, Love the new studio and all the content lately has been top tier. So, I think you are overestimating the difficulty of putting a shelf up on the brick wall. I'm a complete DIY novice and even I've sucessfully drilled into brick before. It wasn't for shelving in my case but to anchor some tall furniture. All you need is a masonry drill bit and some wall plugs. Here's a video for reference https://youtu.be/JZdJ-ix0Vwo. Hope this helps and maybe opens up some options for you. E-van (like e-mail) de Were-Gee-foss (Nice try last week, sorry for putting you through it, but I couldn’t help myself, well done!) Hi Jones! I realise that it would probably be extremely difficult, but do the allies have intentions to do anything resembling a meet and greet in Europe, possibly to coincide with Gamescom or a similar event? Do you, or any of the allies, have plans to visit Dublin, Ireland for the World Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention this August? Given your enthusiasm for shows and books such as Game of Thrones, it seems like something you might enjoy. L&R

Alex McMillan (Anyway you pronounce this is fine) On the subject of Full Playthrough Fridays, an idea I've been wanting to suggest for a while is something akin to "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Savefiles", which would involve the Allies playing through a longer game in sessions with different Allies at the helm each time. The Allies would be going in blind each time, which would provide a fun improvisational nature, with only the viewers properly experiencing the full journey. The thought of doing this with something like Fallout, and having a session where Kyle purposefully tries to put the character into a difficult spot for the next Ally to play is quite amusing. Furthermore, this would allow you to fully playthrough longer games which might not be possible if you had to keep the Allies playing it the same over several sessions. All the best, Alex P.S. As a suggestion to last week's talk of "British Comedy Panel Shows", the best one to start with in my opinion is Taskmaster.

Hey Jones, First off I just wanted to say congratulations on the new studio! Haven't had a chance to congratulate you yet on it! Everything looks amazing so far! The streaming space and the stage for the podcast I love. Looking forward to seeing how you guys continue to perfect the new studio over the years! My business question is in regards to your response to a question you had last week about breakdown of costs. I know you said you really don't want to break down all the different costs for various reasons, privacy being a major factor it seemed, but I was taken aback a bit by your response. It kind of came across a little bit dismissive/ a little too defensive? Not trying to rake you over the coals over how you guys run the business side of Easy Allies but I do believe/ feel like a little more details are owed/ necessary for how you guys allocate your costs for running the company. I totally understand and don't expect you to give numbers on everyone's salary or what is set aside on a monthly basis for the staff's income since that is a very private matter, but I am curious as to why things such as rent need to be undisclosed along with other things. So I guess my question is multi tiered. First off are you willing/ able to disclose how much the stage cost to make and any of the new equipment for the studio? How much is rent or other recurring costs to run the business? If not specific numbers can you give what your budget ranges were for equipment, the two stages, and what further monthly budgets allotments are for the other things you still want to do to the studio that you are not able to get to right now after meeting your max budget on getting everything else done to the studio? If no to all of the above can you further elaborate as to why not? It just kinda rubs me the wrong way not knowing to some degree some specifics of what money is going where that is more detailed then what has been given so far. Especially since you receive most of your income from Patrons such as myself, I feel like they/we have a right to at least know more of the inner workings for how you guys use the money from the Patrons. I know Easy Allies its not the same as the company I work for but the company I work for on a quarterly basis gives both the shareholders and employees budget break downs, costs and expenses, profits, etc. every quarter and don't see why that couldn't be done to some degree here at Easy Allies. I hope I didn't come across as harsh or beating you up over this. In all honesty I do trust how you guys are using the money you receive from Patrons and you are very good at being transparent and honest with us. But again like I said up above your response to a question in regards to budget break downs last week didn't sit entirely right with me and seemed to fall short of your how transparent you usually are. Much Love, Chris Eyerly

Connor Rosine

Hey Brandon, Just a quick suggestion - Could you guys put the Patron Q&As as audio up on the Patron RSS feed? You guys are the best! I really appreciate all you do. Connor Rosine(row-zeen)

Anonymous

Just my two cents but regarding how Jones spends the money they get from patrons isn't necessarily any of our business. Patrons aren't investors. We give them money because we believe in what they are doing with it and want them to succeed but it's not our place to say how they should spend that money or know exactly the knitty gritty on it either. In my opinion patrons pay for a product ie. the content they produce but it's not our right to tell them how that is produced. Like how customers buy stuff in a store but do not ask them what the employees earn or what the store interior costs.

Jones, my question is about full play-through Fridays. Would you guys consider playing through all the hall of greats games just to show people why they are so great?

Anonymous

Jones I’d like to talk about a particular game and games of this nature and get your thoughts about this. Days Gone. I feel like this game is about 5 years late. When it was first shown the tech it was using with mass amounts of zombies on screen was impressive but other than that it seemed like a game riding on the gritty co-tails of something like The Last of Us but without any of the depth. Now we have been waiting for this game for years and every time, from what I have seen, the developers bring the game to show off and the journalists respectfully say things along the lines of “This is kinda like X mixed with a little X.” And the developers quite rudely will say “we like to think of it as Days Gone” of course the developer wants their game to be their own but can they really think their derivative game is going to do any better by shucking off any claim of inspiration from the things it’s so clearly inspired by or ripping off? Thoughts about this particular game feeling like that or any others?

Hi Jones! Any chance of the return of Brandon Go? I loved to see a weekly, or even monthly stream where you try a new mobile game every time to show what the platform has.

Kia Ora Brandon hope you are well today. After last weeks Direct only one thing came to mind. Brandon Sword Kyle Shield. It has to happen the last two series are some of the best content EZA has ever produced. So all I have to say is. Let’s. Do. Thissssss!!!

Hi Jones, I'm going to LA from Europe for the EZA "Concert" (Monster Mash) and I'll have a couple of days to spare in the city. I personally hate LA but is my girlfriend first time, do you have any suggestion on where should I take her and things to do? No Disney please! BTW, is there anything that you would like me to bring you from the UK? L&R, Gabriel Heilborn pronunciation is Ga-briel (The latino way, Ga sound like Lady Gaga) ; High - el - born (heil is exactly same word as the bad guys salute in WW2)

Just a followup to my question last week about Disney changing rides. I had seen the Coco thing a while ago but apparently it's been debunked. I would love to see any overlay of Coco though like you mentioned, that would be great! Since I'm in Florida and go to Magic Kingdom, I've never seen the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay that they do at Disneyland. Maybe I'll get to see it one day :)

Hey Jones! I drove a lot for work and find myself running out of EZA content to consume every week. My question is: do you think we could get audio versions of the usual “video only” shows like Huber Syndrome? I know it adds a fair amount of work into the Allies’ usual schedule, but I’d be very thankful. L&R, Jake

Hey Jones, Happy March and Happy 3-Year Anniversary to EZA. I haven't had time to watch the latest CoJ episodes post-studio move so I don't know if what I'm about to ask has been brought up already in a more recent episode. Now that there have been two live reaction streams for announcements and such (Nintendo and Pokemon directs), do you and the rest of EZA have a clearer idea of how you might want to structure the format for live reactions during the E3 press conferences in June? Will everyone just be in the streaming stage, or perhaps will there be a split between both the streaming stage and the podcast room? I realize it's a bit early to ask such a question, but better to think/plan ahead and work out the logistics for maximum quality. I hope to make it to the 3-year anniversary celebration. Fingers crossed. L&R, Karl

Hey Jones What is the difference between you not reviewing a game that is sponsored, and not reviewing a game that was made by a $1 patron? For example if one of us were to ask you here on Cup of Jones to review a game would that be the same kind of conflict of interest as a full sponsor? If any prospective game makers out there do want the allies to review a game is it morally slash legally apt to cancel their patronage? p.s Whinging, it's an aussie/british thing. pronounced like Cringing

Hi, Jones! I was watching Game Scoop recently - an IGN podcast - and they start off by saying that, from now on, they are not going to record a video version of the podcast (theirs and all IGN’s), adding to that the information that their audio version is, supposedly, vastly more used than the video one. Basically, the video version wasn't paying off as much as they'd like. I imagine this isn't a possibility for the EZA official podcast, but I'm curious if you have and could disclose the video/audio numbers of the podcast and if the discrepancy between them is somewhat big and, in general, I'd like to hear your take on IGN's decision. Aside from that, can we expect a Spoiler Mode for every Game of Thrones episode? I believe all of you watch it. You could put up the first one and the rest exclusively. L&R Éberson Polita

Short follow-up question about the possibility of east coast meet-ups. How about a meet-up in Europe? Maybe around the time of Gamescom? Ahoy Dr. Jones, How do you feel about joining up with community members in various games? Or friending them on various services? I'm guessing this already happened to some degree (i see a forum post from tokeeffe9 about Allies Assembling). But I don't know if this is something you and the other allies encourage, or if there are just too many patrons to open this door (adding them all as friends across PS4, Xbox, Steam, etc.). I can see how each ally might prefer not to clutter their friends list up with hundreds of strangers. butttt. When you stream something like Fortnite, my first thought is that it'd be cool to jump in there and help out. Maybe it could be a high patreon tier? (so you could hang out with RICH strangers! wee!) Or allies could make a point of sharing their gamertag at the start of a stream if they're open to community members joining? just curious where you (and the others) stand.

Hey Jones, I watched your awesome preview on Days Gone and heard you mention there were difficulty settings (Easy, Normal, ect.) and got excited, can you confirm this? Because I think it was sometime last year, the director Jeff Ross told Game Informer the game wouldn't have multiple difficulties. This worried me, because I'm a disabled gamer and like games to have options for everyone. I've been so happy with the recent renaissance of developers adding accessibility options to games over the last couple years with the help of organizations like ablegamers. Playstation's been my console of choice since ps1 and so far, Sony exclusives like Uncharted 4, GOW, and Spider-man have all had great accessibility options. Since they've been in such a roll in that department, I'm hoping Days Gone won't be an exception, not sure if you noticed any accessibility options in the game during your play session. Love & Respect.

Hey Jones, just wanted to make sure Ian got my message from the Community Showcase and dont worry about the rescheduling, I totally understand. I don't think the video was a mandatory update because I did search for it. Either way, love and respect for life ie LnR4L (Im prolly trying too hard with that). ~Heidern98 "Hi durn" Old school King of Fighters 98 character I used for a name in the Fighting Game Community just fyi. Thanks Jones for never making anything we ask or say feel irrelevant. Cheers.

Hey, Jones! Been loving seeing the Easy Allies grow since the first year and humble beginnings when just seeing $40k was a huge deal. I have long-wondered how time is allocated for new shows and Patreon goals. For example, Huber's game show. Does this mean that Huber and other involved Easy Allies will have less time for other projects, or that their work week just gets busier? Have considerations been given to how this might affect stress and quality of other projects?

Yo Jones! I was curious, though I'm sure you've no doubt shared in the past, if you would be comfortable talking about and giving a little insight into meditation? What are some exercises you go through personally, or some tricks that work for you? I've tried several apps in the past, and while they're interesting, I can never shake the feeling that I get more effective results with focused breathing and calm thoughts (not to discredit their effectiveness for others, I just feel like feel like their effectiveness is subjective to the individual. As I'm sure most methods are, really). I have worked several extremely stressful jobs over the last couple of years, and I find that certain music helps as well. Austin Wintory's Journey soundtrack usually goes through my head when I am under extreme stress to maintain composure while I breathe and calm down, although I'm sure the music one would choose is again purely subjective. What methods and practices do you recommend personally and what advice would you give to those who are sometimes too busy to find the time to meditate?

You guys have been killing it with the content recently - you and Brad did a great job with the Day's Gone and Sekiro previews, Ben's review for DMC5 was excellent (as was the just-posted interview with Matt Walker), and I really respect the time that Kyle and the panel on this week's podcast took to address some of the comments and criticism of the "Shouldn'a done that" segment from last week. I wanted to show my appreciation by upping my pledge, and I also browsed through the merchandise storefront. Do the items available to buy change very often? I'm sure it's low on your priorities, but will the new logos/graphics be making their way to a t-shirt in the near future?

Hey Jones - have a question regarding Retros. How did the initial idea for Retros come into being? Was it an idea that you had workshopped prior to GameTrailers existing? Was it an idea pitched by other GT staff? L&R

Greetings Jones, As a lifelong Batman fan, it was such a pleasure to watch the latest Reaction Shots with you and Huber discussing your thoughts on all things Batman. I always look forward to these kinds of discussions. The latest Reaction Shots got me thinking more about your views on the Batman comics. Besides Frank Miller, are there any particular writers or artists that stand out to you as favorites of yours that have worked on the Batman comics over the years? I’ve had mixed feelings about some of the later DC reboots, but one of my personal favorite duos was Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale working on stories like The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. It was a shame seeing Jeph move over to Marvel exclusively. Love and Respect, redskyy

Hey Jones! I was curious about what you foresee as the next advancement in the video games industry, specifically from games quality standpoint. I’m assuming the graphical advancement that has been ongoing for over 2 decades now will have to cap off at some point, where games can’t look any better or be any more detailed, and with games that are as gorgeous and detailed as rdr2 for example, we may already be at this capped off point. So what do you think is next for the video game industry, what are video game like a decade from now ? L&R

Mr. Jones Do you have any ideas for fun group streams akin to the Until Dawn slumber party now that full playthrough fridays are a thing? Should we expect a single Ally playing through a game of their choice? Might I suggest Firewatch by the Campfire (no idea how you would be able to do this) Hellblade with Bloodworth Runic commentary A Tell Tale game with the group deciding the choices together or by vote Mario Party with real world challenges mixed in between rounds A longer game where the controller gets handed off baton style until finished. Hi, Jones. Let's talk about reviews. If they're still relevant, how hard it is to make them, how hard it is to try and cover something from as much angles as possible, anything you can think of. Just to be clear, I mean reviews of anything - games, movies, books, music, electronic devices, cars, restaurants, etc. What are reviews for you? What do you believe is their importance? Do you watch or read reviews of other critics and users? Do you read comments on YouTube on the reviews you make? Do you often, rarely, or never find yourself agreeing with a point someone made? If yes, to this last question, how often does it make you look at something from a different perspective than how you looked at it before? What do you think of the effects reviews have on both a product/service and on consumers? If it's too much questions, feel free to only answer the ones you think are interesting. Basically, I just want to know what Brandon Jones think of reviews. L & R
