Whoa!  Due to a short week at the beginning of November I didn't realize that the second Friday of the month will be upon us in three short days!

So let's discuss Mockumentaries!

The assignment film coming into the month's episode is What We Do in the Shadows, a brilliant film about vampires in New Zealand by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement.

Other faves include This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Man Bites Dog, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Incident at Loch Ness, Documentary Now, The Office.

What works about this format for comedy?

Mockumentaries vary from so dry they barely seem like comedies (especially if you haven't seen potential source material) to very zany and bombastic, is there a point where Mockumentary crosses a line into Farce?  Which works better for you, dry or wild?

How does the documentary style offer new challenges for comedy?

How does the documentary style open up new freedoms when it comes to comedy and filmmaking?

What are your favorite things about this format?

What other mockumentaries do you like?

What else is on your mind, about mockumentaries?
