Namaste. In this (hopefully) calm and relaxed episode of Cup of Jones, we check in on what needs to get done before the end of October, and I spend today's editorial talking about and working through a quick meditation. So when things get quiet for 5 minutes - it's on purpose.

Hey Jones, I finally got into the Allies' other programming such as Frame Trap and Friend Code. I found it initially difficult to get into these shows outside the main EZA podcast, since the EZA podcast is so accommodating towards new listeners with every pod that gets released. I understand that the other podcasts have different and niche audiences, but as someone who still finds it difficult to adapt to these shows (such as what they do every week, what certain sections of the show covers, etc), what do the allies plan to do in the future to accommodate new listeners for more if not all of the shows outside the EZA Podcast?

Anonymous

Are there any current plans you can share for new shows (formats or concepts)? Last major refresh was anime and movies (and the community showcase sounds fun), but I am curious about whether you have any other great ideas in the pipe? - Rick

Anonymous

Since you are a huge Disney fan (like myself), did you ever play the MMO game Virtual Magic Kingdom, also known as VMK? If not, would you want/play a Disney MMO game?

Marceline Leiman

Also, sidenote, but in Mario Party 5, when Mario and Koopa Kid are in a tag team together, they are called the Uneasy Allies. Is this duo your mortal enemies or do you not acknowledge this as EZA canon?

Hi Mr Jones. In EZA, how do you choose who is reviewing what? What happen when two peoples or more want to review the same game? Or when nobody wants to review a specific game, whatever the reasons? L&R Aurélien

Hi Jones! I was wondering if you guys have ever considered to upgrade your on air design a bit. Don´t get me wrong, i like the black, white and red coloring and and all the intros to your shows, but its obvious, that some of them are very... functional and thrown together quickly (didnt Ian say he created the EZA Logo in like half an hour? :P). Of course, content is king, but maybe some flashy little intros with nice music could be an important factor when it comes to attracting new crowds to the EZA Community. L&R from Germany!

Have you considered introducing a new EZA mascot as Buzzy the Buzzsaw?

Gonna need an endless loop of Jones silently meditating

Hey there Jones, was just wondering what the music you play during the show is called and where you acquired it? Is it just royalty free or is there some sort of story behind it? I'm just curious is all.

Happy Halloween! Just in case anyone else asks any of the following, just pick and choose which you'd like: Favorite Halloween candy? Favorite costume that you've done and want to do? Favorite Halloween story, if any? Favorite "Scary" item or decoration (a.k.a. Skeletons, Witches, etc.) Favorite Halloween themed movie? Hope you have a great holiday!

Anonymous

Brandon, EZA is a collection of talented professionals. I was wondering if you guys have thought about creating online courses on Udemy or Coursera etc. ie.) You doing a course on video voice overs (equipment set up, vocal warm ups, what not), Ian doing a course on his ridiculous speed editing, Blood and other reviewers going through how they would do reviews etc. It could be a little source of extra income. Just an idea. L&R

Hey Brandon. I know you have already mentioned that you need to put up youtube videos promoting stuff. I just want to re-iterate that stuff like that is really important. Like for instance, your full playthroughs on your other channel are usually the highest viewed videos on that channel. And Huber just did an amazing job with the full playthrough of Evil Within 2, and was a little disappointed on no youtube video promoting it. You have 130,000 subs and I am sure a vast majority of them had no idea Huber was doing a full playthrough. I follow EZA closely and I barely found out. Same thing for your Sony PGW livestream. Just wanted to put that out there. L&R

Good Morning Jones, thanks for the meditation last week! Meditation is difficult for me, but doing it with others did help my anxiety. With the Hall of Greats now established, will there be any official case or a dedicated shelf to display the games that have been inducted into the Hall? Also has there been talk about making the HoG more of a big deal like more preparation for the speeches for higher quality arguments and maybe special intro music perhaps?

Hey Brandon, just wondering your opinion on games from Rockstar and their narrative themes. I have always enjoyed Rockstar's games, but never really saw any deeper meaning or message in their narrative. The lone example would be GTA IV and its take on the corruption of the American dream. But beyond that one example, I have found that Rockstar narratives have mostly existed to serve entertaining gameplay and some satire. Since your love for Rockstar is obvious, I would love to hear your take on overarching narrative themes in their games. For example: Is Red Dead Redemption meant to convey anything deeper than satire and fun? Bully?

Jones just a quick question. did you get the email that I sned you. I don't need an answer just confirmation that it arrived to the correct sender.

Brandon, is there any chance you can post Cup of Jones to the patron audio RSS? This is too long for me to watch, but I'd love to listen to it while I am at work.

Tabletop Escapades is also for me the only EZA show i don't watch.

Hi Brandon. I can't help but ask for a brief follow-up to your mention of attending Phish's 2009 festival in Indio, CA. I am a die hard Phish fan myself so would love to hear your history with the band, how you found out about them, and if you have attended any other shows. If you ever make it to a show at Madison Square Garden, it would be a pleasure to shake your hand and buy you a beer. L&R -- Fluffhead

Would you ever consider, down the line, when the garage needs redecoration, doing an auction of some EZA memorabilia to build up extra funds? Nothing you hold personally dear or gifts from the community, but meaningful pieces of the set that you mean to replace. What may just be a pillow to anyone else could be a treasured EZA keepsake. A betting special visor, a set of dice used in Tabletop Escapades, a receipt from Fatburger with a doodle on it from Ian. Some of the proceeds could even go to a charity if you expect a lot of sales, as finding time for dedicated charity events can be tough. Something going on in the background of a group stream, with someone monitoring the auctions as they start to end. Just don’t you dare sell Buttons. Happy Halloween, L&R!

Hi Jones! Long time viewer and off-and-on patron (financially stability and I aren't friends). I really loved your casual reflection on dealing with stress, going to therapy, and discovering meditation. I especially loved meditating live and getting us to participate. So for my question: would you consider a weekly session of five minute meditation? Cup of Jones is already has such a relaxed to it and it would be nice to have a quiet moment before we jumpstart our days after the livestream. --L&R-- Kai/Yeoubie (honestly not sure if my comment will show my username or my actual name)

Hey Brandon, I'm a part of the official club for Easy Allies on Xbox. There are a fair number of followers, but the club itself is on average quite empty. Any thoughts on how we can improve this? L&R Sean

Hey Jones! I bet youre tired of the suggestions to continue Brandon Plays Pokemon *cough* play crystal *cough*, but is there a game or series that could possibly warrant a "book club style" series in EZA? L&R

Hey Brandon! I was very excited to see you talking about mindfulness/meditation. I think it's really important and too many people buy into that "waste of time" stigma of it. Would you ever consider a dedicated mindfulness stream? Not even guided meditation but more of what we just got, maybe allies join in if they want to but just getting the idea out there that meditation is normal and helpful and getting people around the world to join in would be really powerful. Somewhat related but what do you think of video games that include these meditative-like segments? Notably in A Hat in Time, and something that Brad didn't mention in the review, there are plenty of places to just sit down and the music slows and it's just this lovely little moment. Life is Strange had something similar I believe. L&R Danny

Hey Jones! Have you ever thought of creating a tier (or adding on to an existing one) for showing the podcast live? Other places do this (Kinda Funny, Giant Bomb) and I think it'd be great and could be a way for patrons to up their tiers or if not to just create another way people can see the podcast. L&R, Ryan Taulbee

Hey Brandon, not a Halloween question. Just a goofy/fun one. How many waffles, is too many waffles?

Nicholas Poer

Just throwing this out there, but the question around the 53 minute mark, where you respond talking about EZA as a 24/7 channel (53:57), GameAttack had a stream last week where they mentioned a similar idea as a long term goal, and they're launching a Patreon next month, and I know you guys know each other and each others work so... just throwing that out ;)

Jones, Any idea when you might get some new merchandise? There's a shirt I keep seeing some allies wear that I can't find in the store. More importantly, you guys haven't had much of a change in your inventory of shirts, which I would gladly buy more of - if there were more varied/new designs. I own one and wear it enough to where people ask me what "EZA" stands for and I eagerly explain your story and where to find your content. I feel like Easy Allies merch is a great way to have low cost advertisements for you guys, but with no new ones coming in, I have no reason to buy them. Could you possibly have Halloween themed ones (obviously late for this year) or other themes through out the year that people could look forward to from year to year, like an annual Hall of Greats dedicated shirt or maybe make Patreon exclusive shirts to encourage new tiers? Love and Respect, Art

This has been answered before (can't remember the answer though). A definite priority for a potential FAQ.

It and Cup of Jones are the only EZA shows I watch EVERY week. I don't watch Fiasconauts at all.

Anonymous

Simply mentioning it somewhere other than the forums would be a start.

Anonymous

In regards to the tiers, it sounded to me like Brandon K Gann was asking about how focused YOU guys are in FUFILLING the tiers, as in which ones do you give the highest priority to when budgeting time and money.

Anonymous

P.S. easyallies.com/forums does not work. The correct address is forums.easyallies.com

The shirt you see them wear sometimes is probably the one that was sold at the one year anniversary event. I agree that they do need some new merch but I know it's something they're aware of already.

I have a feedback about Community Showcase post limits. I think 200 words limit is too brutal and I don't know why we can't make it 300 like it was before. It's not Q&A where you want to spend more time answering question than reading them. Comments are main event here and they should have a bit more time. Also you can read 200 words in a minute and you accept 3-minute videos. I know you don't want to push all community members to making video comments but these rules are strong incentive to do so. Sorry for making loud opinion. I've just finished writing my comment for October and I feel it will be a bad one because I had to throw away a lot to hit 200 words limit.

Anonymous

Hey Jones, I had a idea for a show. How about a show with a rotational cast of allies playing board games like life, sorry, etc. The recording would probably take about one session for most games and you could cut it up into sections and space out releasing them. There could be a patreon tier where we could pick the board games. Just a idea, Love & Respect Tim.

Something that a meditation teacher told me to practice is to have your thoughts, let them happen. Okay, now that you had your thought, now let it go, let it drift away. Maybe it never truly mutes itself, but visualize it drifting away, as though you were driving away from it. Visualizations helped me a lot at the beginning, in order to organize my head space and remain in tranquility. Eventually the emptiness that meditation tries to instill comes and visualizations are no longer needed. Hope this helps some of you out there that may have trouble quieting you mind, like I did once upon a time. L&R, David M

Hi Brandon, here is a Batman question, with a couple of actors who have already played Batman in all of the Batman films with more actors who will take on the role for any future Batman films, are you concern as a Batman fan, as to whether if that specific actor is suitable for the role, or you are fine with the selected actor, so long as the actor is able to perform the role as the Dark Knight with justice?

Hey Jones, now that this year has seen some heavy hitting open world games (BotW, HZD) among others, and I know you love them open worlds, what is the best non-Rockstar open world? Not open-world game but just best open world in a game so far, excluding gameplay and story but including things like ambiance and general vibes.

Anonymous

Hey Jones, how are you? Learned a lot about meditation from your last CoJ, and I'll start to practice soon, thanks for that. I was wondering about your reviews. There's websites like Gamespot and VG247 who make a Review Roundup, linking and showing what score major outlets gave to a newly released game. For those games that EZA receive pre-embargo (like AC Origins was) wouldn't be interesting to try and get on these lists? Or do you think the video format only might be a barrier? Cheers!

Mr Jones, Quick note from last week- The gift that was to be sent was Alaskan salmon Jerky. The Question- In your experienced opinion what is it that sets the Easy Allies apart from its competitors on Youtube and Patreon (Reputation, Experience, luck, hard work, insider know how)? How can you capitalize on this to grow the company? Respectfully, Morgan Mohalla

Dear Cup of Jones I did several drafts of this comment but I'm not a great writer so let me just get to the point: I wish you guys did Quick Looks. I think that format is just great television and, at least to me, far more of an influence when it comes to purchasing decisions than any written or video review. KUTGW bymanus

I can't help but feeling dismissing the Neogaf story in the latest podcast was a bad move. Not necessarily in dismissing it - I respect your choice to cover and discuss what you want - but Kyle's tone was not anywhere near measured. Easy Allies had a large presence on Neogaf, with several members posting there, so to completely dismiss it comes off somewhat cowardly. I also think it's valuable to keep accusations of sexual harassment as an ongoing dialogue and process. You also didn't cover the Naughty Dog sexual harassment stories either. You have no obligation to, nor even a moral imperative, but personally I'd like to see at least a considered, tactful and honest approach to these events rather than pushing them to the sidelines. Doing so makes them 'flavour of the week' problems that people get worked up over and forget about it in a short space of time, rather than the consistent acknowledgement that these issues are pervasive and that we, as people, need to do better. Sorry this isn't exactly a question, but I just felt how the issue was handled was disappointing and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Anecdote: seeing Contact in the theatre (in Corvallis, OR) is one my top theatre going experiences because: it was sold out. every seat taken. And I remember there was a point where you could hear a pin drop, and NOBODY broke it. I guess it was the same point you noted, though I thought it was later in the film. huh. still. crazy. (and in related nobody-cares-anecdote-town: i grew up in California (Santa Cruz and LA), and I noticed when i moved to Oregon around 1995 that the audience was wayyyyyyy less respectful of silence during movies. so. An extra layer of magic there, on that one movie experience)

Is it possible to make Cup of Jones available as a Audio Version. Right know it isn't even possible to watch in via the app. Which is pretty inconvinient for me. Is the "bug" still a problem? Is there a solution in sight? Is a Audio version even possible? L&R And thanks for being so open. Really appreciate it

Thanks for this great Cup of Jones! I really liked that you did both the meditation and training videos. As someone that's both physically large and has crippling anxiety, those two videos hit home with me! I've dabbled with meditation many times, and just haven't stuck with me in the long run, but I really liked that you view it as a vitamin supplement, and I'm gonna start meditating again with that new mindset! How about 5 minutes of meditation at the end of each Cup of Jones? You've probably already though about it, but a thought struck me about the 24/7 EZA streaming "tv-channel" idea. Why not just stream content you've already made? Old streams, maybe a block of a few hours of Tabletop Escapades? Then some Easy Update? Bob Ross on mondays is a treat, "norwegian slow tv" as well (I'm a norwegian, so I'm probably biased). You mentioned that some in the community watch old GT-stuff together (I don't really participate socially in the community because of my anxiety, so I don't even know where to look for that). Also wanted to say that I'm at a patreon level that I can afford, not necessarily because that's the tier that I wanted and such. So I think you're right in that regard, at least for me. L&R!

Joseph La Russa

You mentioned that at GT you would watch numbers plummet and there was nothing you could do; do you ever regret selling GT in the first place because of the lack of control it must have given you over the company that you founded? It must have been painful to watch it be so mismanaged and eventually uncared about.

Hey Jones, just want to say I really enjoyed the workout stream with German Efficiency the other day. I personally get motivated by watching people work out whether they be beginners or experts. Also, I think it would be good for your own workout journey as you would document your progress. Are you going to do more?

Hi Brandon, I really liked the meditation session. Some years ago during my studies I had problems with my stomach, too. No doctor couldn't help me. After my studies, I had less stress and the problems with my stomach was gone. Now, in very stressful situations the problem comes back. Maybe meditation can help me, too. How often do you meditate? Greetings from Germany (at the moment on vacation in Florida)!

A suggestion: if you sign up for a premium Google music account, it comes packaged with youtube red, which allows for youtubes to continue playing with your phone screen off or away from the youtube app. In fact I'm typing this while listening to cup of Jones live. Just a thought if you hadn't considered it.
