It's weekly! So far. I'm back for week 2 of the new weekly Cup of Jones with plenty of questions to answer. I also want to chat about the new set, what it took to put together, and what it means for EZA.

Happy October!

Jones, I know you and I have a shared love of Gimmicks. I'm Really deep into the Current Batman Story lines of "War of Jokes and Riddles" (Joker vs Riddler) and "Dark Nights Metal" (Evil Bat-People) which have lovely promotional gimmicks but by far my favorite "Gimmick" are Doppelgangers, I LOVE when a Team of Characters have to face off with and Opposing team that share similar costumes and traits. (i.g. Dark Avengers, NegaDuck, Sinestro, Reverse Flash) SO in the spirit of that what's your favorite Batman Gimmick? Regarding Cup of Jones Questions, I like the Idea of you giving us a Topic to ask questions about, I feel like it will help steer this away from just being a Weekly Jones Solo Q&A, but I don't want patrons to be afraid of asking hard hitting questions as if this was an investor meeting. I always really enjoyed you tackling tough questions and hearing your honest answers and concerns.

Will CoJ be live only from now on? will there be a VoD later? oO

Anonymous

They will be archived and available after they finish, but yes they will all be live Tuesday at 10am PST but the VOD will be there for any patron that missed it.

Ian had an awesome stream recently where he edited an eza review. Id love to see more of these! i know its more work streaming but it seems like something you were already doing and thus lower cost/effort . Is it possible this may become a regular thing? also you talked about having a research zone. what is a research zone?

Anonymous

That was fun to watch! Just one thing, I dont know if its because its live and all, but I would like to see you slow down a little bit in your speech. I understand that you have a lot to go through and so on, but sometimes it felt a little hard to follow. Also a question. (not batman related) when you move to a new studio in the future, will you bring all gifts/art to display there or will you leave it "blank" as a new start to fill up the background? Love and Respect

I have many Batman questions: Do you believe The Riddler is mentally fit to stand trial? Who is your favorite Robin? If you could choose one to STAY dead, who would it be? Which actor that portrayed Batman is the best and why is it Adam West? If you could introduce one brand new villian to the pantheon, what would it be? If you could recommend only one Batman comic story what would it be? One piece of Batman media overall? One non-Batman story that could be improved with Batman? Should Catwoman accept Batman's Marriage proposal? Batman vs. Superman?

Christophe Fettouhi

for next CoJ batman special: Batman: The Animated Series had its 25 year anniversary a month ago. With the impact the series had I was a little disappointed in how they handled it. What would you had done differently?

Scott A. Ford

I'm curious if you've read Paul Pope's Batman: Year 100, and your thoughts on it if you have (clearly a direct reference to Batman: Year 1). It is easily my favourite Batman graphic novel, and overall one of my favourite comics of all time. Similar to what you discussed, it deals with a futuristic Gotham where the super villains are all dead and Batman really just seems like this demented guy running around in a costume, in a city that views him less like a vigilante and more like some crazy urban legend. Honestly, it's surprising that DC ever let Paul Pope tackle Batman with his avant-garde approach to comics storytelling.

This isn't really a question but just a thought I had. Jones you mentioned if you were to hire someone it wouldn't be a new Ally, just someone to work behind the scenes, which is a great idea. Then later you talked about, if/when this person is hired, introducing them to the community. Personally speaking, if this person is not going to be an Ally, I don't think you need to introduce them at all. I think introducing them will make them a pseudo-Ally whether you want them to be or not. You know the Community will start asking "when is X going to be on Y show" etc. If, for example, you hire an accountant or some other off screen person, there is absolutely no need for the community at large to know who they are.

This is awesome. Love the new format for "Cup of Jones". Keep it up o/

Hey Jones, I know that there will be a Community Comments stream some time soon where select comments from June, July and August will be read off. Just wondering if Community Comments from the September edition will be included?

Anonymous

Hi Jones, great setup & lightning. If i have to complain about one thing is your mics during the podcasts/frametraps. They hide a big chunk of the faces of the allies most of the time and it really is annoying to watch sometimes. I love to see emotions on allies faces.. their smiles etc.. Can you please position them better so that it doesnt look like they are hiding behind those mics? Keep up the great work. pS: I would also love more short videos regarding gaming.

Anonymous

I wish I had a Batman question to ask, but this is a topic that has caused some internal conflict within my friend group lately- there are concerns that the Community Showcase will value creative-types over people who aren't so artistically-minded; I'm excited for it but realize that might only be because I'm creative myself. So what other, non-artsy things do you think could be displayed on Community Showcase? Will general comments about games still appear, or is it more of an outlet for Finished Works™?

Anonymous

I have little to no talent and will be looking forward to watching other peoples stuff being highlighted.

Batman question: In your opinion, what are the most over-rated and under-rated Batman graphic novels? (I prefer Hush to The Dark Knight Returns any day) l&r

Anonymous

You should try and get Danny O'Dwyer over, I believe he moved to LA

What dp you think of Damian Wayne. I personally loved his growth through the grant morrison batman and robin arc but havent delved into tge bew 52 teen titans stuff. Would love to here your take on this divisive character. Also have you read Grayson? It is amazing! such an awesome concept to mash Dick Grayson and a spy romp together, thouroughly enjoyable.

Sounds like you need an electrcian

Hi Brandon and congratulations on making Cup of Jones the weekly show you've been aiming at since the beginning of Easy Allies! I really like this new formula: more direct and natural, it feels like you're having a real conversation with Patrons. However, as you like to call it now and then, more than a casual conversation with Patrons, Cup of Jones is supposed to be an "investors board meeting". Considering there already are Q&A parts in EVERY PODCAST on Easy Allies as well as a monthly 2h+ Q&A only session to ask such trivial and mostly uninteresting questions (except for the people who ask these questions), do inquiries about Batman fanfictions, your camping sites top 5 or the kind of soda you like really have a place in here?

Anonymous

Hey Jones! Loved the new format. I had a suggestion that might be a little crazy but also potentially fun and interesting. Have you ever heard of the Korean reality show called "The Genius"? (If not, here's the first episode just to get a feel for it and the format: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpwIgWPfNvc ) I think it's an incredibly interesting and fun show (It's also really cheesy and goofy with the editing and definitely something I can see you guys playing around with), sort of like Survivor meets board games, and it would be crazy to do a similar type of show with the Allies. A long-form, episodic tournament of sorts with social deception and wit and strategy. Or even just having an occasional board game show like the crew playing Secret Hitler or Diplomacy. Is this something you have considered, and is it feasible given your current setup?

I love me some Batman talk! There's many reasons Batman is my favorite character. From his obsession to be the best and tackle things with no powers, to the character design itself. But one aspect that I think makes Batman rise above others from a creativity aspect is how versatile the character is. You can tell high tech fantastical stories with him and the JLA, you can do street level stories, you can have it focus of him and the bat family or have it be solo batman. Sometimes its angry Batman, other times cool and calculated. The character can fit into so many situations that other well known characters just cant. Which for a storytelling format that will never actually end is a great asset. So with all that said, what is a take on the character that you'd like to see explored more?

Anonymous

It was indeed my first time watching Cup of Jones. Can't wait to watch more of these in the next weeks. Batman question : I remember from the old days that you're the most intelligent of the Allies because you clearly see that Arkham City is a better game than Arkham Asylum, what was your favorite part of Arkham City? Do you sometimes go back and replay this amazing game?

Anonymous

Also, a stupid other idea, a show called "Love OR Respect" where one person talks about a game they love, and the other person who doesn't like the game, but 'respects' it, talk about it from both sides, debate style.

Anonymous

Brandon you look tired, get some sleep please

Love the music in the background. great add :)

Are the bastards trying to kill you Jones!? Damn you can go shopping with these bags under your eyes!

Anonymous

The new setup looks great. I don't have a question but a suggestion instead. You guys should change the decorations of the set for the Halloween and subsequent themes. Changing the action figures and pictures on the frames for something that fit the theme would be a nice touch.

Anonymous

That shirt is great! You come to mind every time I pick up a giant bag of Candy Corn at target lol. I'm starting to like the setup change, I'm actually learning the same lessons about lighting, a few simple lights and cheap tricks have saved me from buying a lot of expensive hardware to achieve the same result. Reducing the gain as much as possible makes the camera look so smooth to where you'd swear it was a "Better" camera.

Really liking the new format for Cup of Jones, it means we get more of it and also means I'll be tuning in more because of the timing! In the beginning, I remember it being said that almost none of the Easy Allies were full-time employees, compared to the GT days when that was everyone's main job. Has anyone else jumped on full time as of yet? I know you guys put a ton of time and effort into what you're all producing here, so I wonder how much of that is done alongside "day jobs" for each of the allies. I'd also be curious to know what the allies who work "day jobs" do in those jobs, but that might be more private depending on the person. Thanks for all of the great content! -rardk64

Anonymous

Heya Brandon, is EZA your primary job, or do you still have other contract work you do (like VO for a commercial or production work for another studio)? If so, how do you balance your work with EZA and your other obligations?

Anonymous

Hi Brandon, as a reviewer is it possible for you to set aside all biases and review a game based on its own merits or is there a part that lets feelings about a franchise whether they be negative or positive influence your decisions when reviewing a game? Thank you and all the allies for the positivity and objectiveness in an industry that needs more of those traits. L&R- Mike L

Batman question: Most underrated and overrated Batman story? (Show, game, comic...)

Anonymous

Hi Brandon! I am referencing something you said about BatMan not being really a funny type of character when he is just standing around with people. First off, I agree he absolutely is a brooding, somber character. But at the same time, I think BatMan can be very funny some of the time; often in a subtle, & unexpected ways. Even very dry at times. I think it is the idea of this dark, menacing presence of a focused man towering over people like a average older man like Gordon is uncomfortable in a embarrassing way. So I think that awkwardness is kind of funny, almost like the show "the office". This is especially evident when he is barely speaking or not speaking at all in a situation when present with another person. What I find the best part to be in all of this, is how any situation or conversation can be over if BatMan decides to leave after some one looks away in a different direction; often before they can finish a sentence. (Leaving only a open window.) Love & Respect, Tegan

Mr. Jones, Batman has been around since 1939, will he ever be able to accomplish what he set out to do? He chose never to kill, and the villains always seem to escape. He may reform some but surely can't reform them all. Will the villain's be removed by someone who has looser morals, be imprisoned, or executed for their crimes? What kind of end (in your opinion) should Batman, and cast, have if the day ever comes? Will it be legacy, tragedy or triumph?

Anonymous

Hi BJ! If given the opportunity, which Batman character would you most like to voice in any kind of video game or animated series/movie. Also do you already have an idea what your interpretation of said character would sound like?

You were hilarious in easy update. Do more comedy skits!

No Pokken. Mainline Pokémon Switch. Johnny in HD. Question: What are the most effective vocal warm ups you use before recording scripts? Thanks!

Joseph La Russa

Hey Jones! Any chance you can teach the other Allies about proper head/mouth positioning or speaking levels when using the microphones during podcasts/non-steams? I find I regularly need to raise and lower the volume because many of the Allies do not regulate their voices. For example, Ben can get incredibly quiet and Huber insanely loud. Those are the extreme examples, but you are the only one who never has an issue speaking at an audible but not overly loud level, maybe you could help them. P.S., sorry it's not a Batman question! I understand if I need to wait for an answer.

Hello Jones, Been patreon from start, but haven't had anything meaningful to say before, until i saw you are doing Batman only Cup of Jones and then this news came out. Quote from https://io9.gizmodo.com/the-batman-ninja-anime-shows-a-dark-knight-weve-never-s-1819185984 by Charles Pulliam-Moore: "Batman Ninja, the upcoming animated film coming from Warner Bros. Japan and directed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Jumpei Mizusaki, is a simple enough idea to wrap your mind around: Batman and co. are flung back through time to medieval Japan. But the few seconds of footage screened today at New York Comic Con showed that the story writer Kazuki Nakashima (Kamen Rider Fourze) and character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai) have crafted is unlike any Batman story we’ve ever seen. Though the movie isn’t quite done yet ahead of its 2018 release, it’s already one of the most visually daring and astonishing Batman stories Warner Bros. has ever produced. Picture Batman, decked out in shogun’s armor and wielding a katana, charging at the Joker, who’s also brandishing a sword, but draped in a fanciful, ancient Japanese courtier’s outfit that’s overflowing with tattered ruffles that bounce along with his maniacal laugh." Whats your thoughts about it? Love & Respect,

You have GOT to hook up with another huge Batman fan and ace orator, Victor Lucas. He comes down to L.A. once in a while, in which case you could invite him to Cup of Jones, or you could join him on his own weekly live stream, Vic's Basement. Or they could both be the same show for a day. However it happens, I suspect his 20+ years of TV production experience could lead to some helpful advice for Easy Allies, and your success with Easy Allies may help him too, as he's actually in a similar boat, having been forced to leave TV and switch to YouTube a couple of years ago.

Jones' voice sounds higher pitched than usual? Video might be sped up slightly? Could be coffee and/or nerves, I suppose...

Brandon, with the announcement of the Batman Ninja anime what other cool twist would you like to see on Batman in animated form? For example: Viking Batman, Old West Batman, Samurai Batman etc?

Anonymous

Brandon, will the Community Showcase be archived on Patreon or will we have to go someplace else to watch it? Also, where can we post stuff for the Community Showcase?

Anonymous

Hola Brandon, watching the EZA Podcast something came up to my mind, who does the cleaning of the garage/HQ? the allies, some cleaning lady, yourself? with Sophie, the place must be one giant furball :P Thanks!!

Anonymous

If you are talking about the old one from back at GT, I think the reason they stoped is because the track was licenced. If you are talking about the EZA one, I believe they said it felt bad only being able to do it for some people, and not for others i.e. when they are doing an E3 stream etc. they can't stop to sing every couple of minutes.

So my name is, at least in Germany pronounced a bit softer, more like Beshen, or Bashen ( my twitter account is TimBashen, I don't know if you made this connection^^). But my questions are, you are a trained actor right? At what point in your carreer did you made the decision to do VO? Was it a passion before GT or did you do GT and then just did an loved it? Are you still acting? A little Jones origin :)

Hi Jones! My first time writing in! If you had to remove one character from Batman lore and wipe that character from everyone's memory. Who would you choose? Thank you for reading! L&R (Don't have to read..thanks for uploading pictures of things we have sent Sophia. We really enjoy it. Amanda does this as well with other gifts and it is really nice.)

WrackPharmd

Howdy, Brandon! I was wondering what you thought about the new Batman Ninja Anime set in feudal Japan. It looks very different with Batman wielding a sword and clashing with Joker. I'm kinda into it. Also, side note: I really appreciate you keeping things professional and appropriate for your audience. I can tell that others feed off your professionalism and etiquette and everybody is all in on the Love & Respect attitude. So thanks for everything, L&R, John Mc

Have you read more of Scott Snyder's run on Batman other than the popular Court of Owls and Death of the Family arcs. Not only did he get to use the All-Star Batman moniker (like the greatest Superman comic and to redeem All-Star Batman and Robin known as one of the worst) and he's also currently writing the big crossover and finale to his entire run with fellow collaborator Greg Capullo...Batman:Metal. It's the perfect time to catch up since it's all ending and it's arguably the greatest run ever on the character. (Beware spoilers at all cost if you research as some later stuff in his run change the status quo significantly which can be ruined by simply looking at covers. Depending on your response to my question i will put a simple reading order next post so you can buy and enjoy it spoiler and hassle-free)

Alex Castellanos

Hey Jones, can you give us an update on when you think you will have a guest Ally with you on C.o.J.? (Not that YOU aren't great already!) As far as Batman related questions go, what style of Batmobile has been your favorite? and would you want DC to settle on a specific look for said Batmobile or do you like that it's forever changing/updating itself?

Anonymous

Hello Jones, We're nearly to the point where there are almost as many Batman movies as there are Jason Voorhes films. Out of all of these, it's pretty much the general consensus that Batman & Robin is the worst of these. What was your experience with the film? Did you watch it as a teen? Was your impression coming out of the theater? Or did you not get a chance to see it until much later? Have your thoughts changed on the film? Did you sign-up for the Bat-Credit Card? How is the interest on that thing?
