Hi everyone, as some of you might know, I recently had the opportunity to travel to Spain to see this new game from MercurySteam, the developers behind the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series. Afterwards I sat down with Brandon to discuss the game and it's unconventional design and business strategies.

Doing so much travel in such a quick turnaround was a bit grueling, but otherwise it was a good trip that let me get a strong picture of what the studio is going for. I also interviewed some of the lead figures back in the day when they were working on the Castlevania games. So it was a bit of a reunion in a way as well.

The trip also let me give our new capture laptop a test run, and getting footage on the field more easily is the main reason we got it. So it was nice to be sure there were no roadblocks before taking it into the chaos of E3. There's a fair amount of B-Roll from the publisher in there as well, but most of the footage featuring an actual HUD is my gameplay on a debug PS4.

I hope you enjoy the preview whether you end up interested in the game or not, and thanks as always for providing the opportunities to continue covering games like this.

This is the kind of game I'd have dismissed as just another shooter based on a standard trailer or an online poster. A long form preview like this makes all the difference. Blood and Brandon talking openly for a decent length gives service to all the interesting ideas that wouldn't get any air time through the usual marketing channels. I'm left fascinated by how idiosyncratic the project seems to be given the experimental release model, the dev team pushing for strong player reactions to the characters, that wonderfully self-reflexive anecdote "I've done this all before in Quake", every enemy having an individual name and so on. Having watched this discussion I've got a much stronger sense for both the game itself and the attitude of the development team, and as a consequence I'll be keeping an eye on it in future. Thanks for doing this guys, much appreciated.

Not exactly. Got in one day, went to the studio the next, went back to the airport the morning after that. -Bloodworth

I echo this. This was a great preview, and now I'm actually interested in a game that's nowhere near my wheelhouse and was never on my radar, Firstly because it's a non twitch-based shooter that implements stealth and rewards tactical team play, and secondly because the dev team sounds so cool. Really, the dev team being self aware, willing to take risks, and responsive to the community really goes a long long way.

This sounds like a pretty good game, it will probably depend on when this releases on how good this does. Here's hoping for August or September, much later and this will get buried. I hope EasyAllies will keep us informed.

Copyright 2016 at the end of the video? Okay... that was an enjoyable preview though. Blood gave some awesome analyses of that game
