One of the more special things to me about California is its two species of redwood trees, the Coast Redwood (tallest tree species in the world) and the Sequoia (biggest tree by mass). Both grow in very distinct, narrow bands in a two very different parts of the state, and both are intense wonders to behold in person.  Strangely though, many of the places that have really good groves of these trees, are scarcely visited, which makes them great places to visit for photographing friends who like to run around naked in the wilderness.
