Exploration system expansion (Patreon)
Content
As I got to the exploration revamp, I've considered multiple ways to approach it, but after inspecting them closely, I decided, that I should work on parts I personally don't like. In current system there's a few things:
1. No clear inventory, spells and other party management features outside of mansion
2. Very basic navigation system with lots of nominal actions which should really have more thoughts behind them (namely, return to mansion from anywhere, easy teleports for party, diminished sense of progress and area connections, very basic approach to capturing and delivering slaves)
3. Encounters and rewards distribution (this one will obviously has to be addressed more than just once)
Obviously, some of those issues came up to be like that since partly exploration and combat was rushed at the time I was working on it, and partly since I had barely any experience and coding knowledge and any working system for me was a huge step. So now its time to make more sense out of it.
Firstly, I introduce a weight system. All items have some weight and your total weight is calculated from your party's strength. You will be able to carry stuff from mansion and bring back more (mansion has no weight limit). This might seem minor at first glance, but weight system allow us to bring new dimension of gameplay: planning and resource management.
So, what new things, besides carrying back spoils, will weight affect?
1. Ropes to capture slaves
2. Bandages and supply to heal and restore your party's health in other ways than using magic
3. Various tools like lockpicks and torches which might prove useful in certain situations(WIP)
4. Teleportation items to return yourself and your party to mansion
Speaking of capturing slaves, not only you gonna need to bring ropes now, but also will have to escort them back with you manually. You will be able to teleport them back with special item, but otherwise they will follow you around until you return to mansion.
As you could have guessed, planned features require a significant number of new elements, mechanics and balances, but otherwise this will make exploration a completely different experience. I very much hope this won't take longer than end of next week, but I will let you know on the progress before that anyway. Thank you for your attention and see you soon!
