Hey guys!  We're getting close to the release of my novel Art of Death.  One of the things all novels but especially indie and small press novels depend on is a great launch.  This includes as much visibility as possible on release day - getting the word out on social media, buying if you haven't preordered, and posting reviews on or soon after release day.

Most publishers and authors offer some advance copies of new novels in the hopes that readers will choose to review them on sites like Amazon, Goodreads, and elsewhere - but especially Amazon these days, since that's where most sales happen.

Advance copies are free.  They are NOT given "in exchange for" reviews.  Whether or not a recipient of an advance copy chooses to review the book, and what they say in their review, is entirely up to them.

My publisher is providing advance copies to professional reviewers, but I'm offering up to 5 free ebook copies to regular everyday readers here on Patreon.  They are available in .pdf, .epub, and .mobi (choose 1).

Interested?  Here are the details:

1. You must be eligible to post a review for this book on Amazon.  This means you have to have spent at least $50 on Amazon over the past year, and you can't be a close friend or family member of mine.  Ideally, you've also reviewed other books or products on Amazon before.  For full eligibility requirements, check here before requesting:
Amazon - Community Guidelines
Amazon - About Customer Reviews

2. You may request an advance copy whether or not you've already ordered the book, and whether or not you plan to in the future.  (Hopefully you won't cancel your order though. ^_^)

3. This is a public post.  You do NOT have to be a patron to request a copy of the novel - but as always, Patreon is the first place I announce things.  Please note I won't send free copies to total strangers or past patrons I've never interacted with.  If you're not a current patron, I have to recognize your name so I know that you're not likely to pirate the book.

4. Reviews are voluntary.  It's your choice whether or not you will review the book, and what you say in the review.  I will not hunt down your review or interact with it in any way.  I also can't offer any sort of reward or reciprocation for a good review.

5. If you do review the book, it's a good idea to disclose that you received a free advance copy but are reviewing voluntarily and honestly.  Please don't claim that you received a free copy "in exchange for a review," because that's against Amazon's terms and is not what I'm doing.

6. The best time to leave a review is on release day, any time AFTER the book has been released.  Reviews can't be posted before release day.

7. Reviewing on multiple sites (Amazon, Goodreads, Kobo, DSP Publications website, etc.) is GREAT, but it's better if you don't copy and paste your review word for word on each site.  Also, please check the guidelines and terms of service on each site before posting a review.

8. Advance copies are offered on a first come, first served basis, starting 10 minutes after this message posts to ensure you've had time to read Amazon's guidelines and confirm you're eligible before requesting.

If you are cool with all of the above, please send me a private message.  When messaging, please:

  • Confirm that you've read and meet Amazon's eligibility requirements.
  • Confirm that you will not share the advance copy with anyone else at any time.
  • Confirm your understanding that reviews are voluntary, and that you are NOT receiving the free book "in exchange for" a review.
  • Tell me your preferred file format (pdf, epub, or mobi).
  • Tell me the email address to send your advance copy.

Feel free to comment here if you have any questions, but please send any official requests via message only, since this is a public post and your email address is needed.

Thanks!  I can't wait till the release! :D
