And a bit of commentary for just the Patreon folks - from my very first concept of Merritt, his character was rooted in loyalty and obedience, both things Samsid has briefly mentioned about him in the previous chapter even though we haven't seen it play out much yet.  But for someone who's exceptionally obedient by underground standards, he still seems to have trouble controlling his snark. ^_^  Little touches of it just seem to pop up here and there.  It's one of those things that just happened the more I wrote and developed him, even though I didn't originally envision that aspect of him all those many years ago.  I like the way he turned out - obedient in the end, but not without the ability to voice disagreement or stand up for himself.  That's one of the things Mercury valued about him as a general.
