May Rewards

Health-wise, I'm doing better than I was a couple weeks ago.  I still have some good days and some days that fall into the void, and things are still going slower than I'd hoped, especially with May's quarterly sketches.  But I'm far enough along now that I should get them posted by tomorrow night or so.  That means that Pogo's May letters will go out early next week, and a card deck portrait later in the week.  Thanks for waiting, guys!

May Sketch Tier Sketches

As usual, I plan to post progress photos of the Sketch Tier sketches to the #north_star_lounge on my Discord server later tonight as the sketches are completed.  It's always good to stop in if you want to get a preview of the sketches so you can be prepared to request once I post them to Patreon, since the good ones always go fast. ;)

That Weird Video Up There

And finally, up above I have process video of some "just for fun" sketches I did in May.  These are all old, old characters from another project, but I haven't drawn them in like 10 years and the original story was primarily prose, so I decided to redesign the characters from scratch.  I was also trying to get more comfortable drawing on an iPad, which is the device I have the most trouble with.  The nice thing about the iPad, though, is that it can record your drawing progress.

I found it interesting to watch the replay because it really helped me to see the common mistakes I make.  In fairness to myself, I was using a new medium and was also sick at the time (and didn't realize I was being recorded XD), and I was designing these characters on the fly... but I also really do make a lot of mistakes when I draw. ^_^  Like, I map out the face and then just... don't put the features on the guide lines like I'm supposed to?  So then I have to re-map everything as I go.  I think I've been spoiled by digital art where I just move stuff that's in the wrong place, whereas on the iPad I'm less comfortable, so I draw more like I draw with traditional media, meaning fewer shortcuts.  But pencil and paper is still easier for some reason.

I plan to do more with these characters in June, which I'll show you guys.  And I'm hoping to resume DOTU pages in July, possibly to patrons only for a while.  With the extra post-hiatus page I did, and still wrapping up rewards, it barely feels like my hiatus has started yet...
