A Gift (Patreon)

I’m really excited about this space, and we’ve just reached April with a couple of extra paintings! Yay us! I hope you know you’re the reason behind all this - your support, love, and input - which is why I’d like to thank you all very much for being a part of it. 

I read an Anthropology essay a couple of years ago about some pretty magical things that happen whenever people exchange gifts. There’s always both a material aspect to it (money, labor, products) and a symbolic aspect in each transaction (feelings, meanings, ideas, dreams, wishes). The magical part is that, when it’s done right, there’s always a symbolic surplus that ultimately makes people feel good about and take care of one another. 

This has been one of Epona’s main themes as a character, since she was born physically gifted, but few people understood it, or accepted her, even when she thought it was safe to share this gift with others. A huge part of gifts, I guess, is that they have to be accepted in the first place.

This is my Easter gift to all of you. A sweet moment of Epona that just wouldn’t leave my mind these days.
