Whew. It's been a bit of a long wait, but at long last, the Final Fantasy XIV video is done. Now that y'all can enjoy it, I hope you'll feel the wait was worth it!

This was an extremely First Five video about a decidedly not First Five game, the hundred-plus hour MMO that, despite everything, I would still call hands down the most respectful and accessible game in its field. And it's not even close. This game just has fundamentally different priorities compared to its contemporaries that make it more respectful of your time at every possible level of play, which makes it an absolute gem for someone like me who doesn't have the time for a more hostilely designed MMO. In a sense, despite its impressive length, this is exactly the sort of game First Five exists to champion: games that make the inaccessible...well, accessible. FFXIV is unquestionably a good game with a phenomenal plot, some really engaging combat, and an absolutely delightful community, but what I'm most interested in talking about are all the ways it's good specifically for people like us.

Moving forward, we're shifting gears back to our usual programming, and I think everyone, myself included, will be happy to get back to shorter and more frequent releases. I'm going to do a few normal reviews (maybe Deathloop? Maybe something a little more recent that hasn't already had a hundred takes?), and then after that, I'll probably do this again for the Descent video and take a few extra weeks to put it out. Look forward to it!

Final Fantasy XIV Is as Accessible as MMOs Get

MMOs are one of the least accessible genres in the medium. They've built up a somewhat deserved reputation as these monster lifestyle games that dominate your entire life and leave little room for things like, y'know, an actual second hobby. But there's one MMO that stands apart from that trend, that actively seeks to resist that style of design and respect your time at every level of play whether you're just starting out or are hundreds of hours deep. Final Fantasy XIV is as streamlined and accessible as MMOs get. And if, like me, you enjoy MMOs but don't have hundreds of hours to devote to one, it is absolutely the MMO for you.
