Surprise! Two reviews in one week. This time I'm taking a look at Maquette, the latest of a string of perspective based indie puzzlers to come out the past few years. This time, Maquette's hook is based around a recursive game environment — the entire game world is nested infinitely inside of itself, and as you move objects from one layer to another, they change size! I'll admit that as a title I've been looking forward to pretty much since its announcement, Maquette didn't quite live up to everything I wanted it to be, but there's still a lot the game got right, including a pretty dope aesthetic. Give it a look!

Hopefully I'll have the reading list out for tomorrow and another video about Fights in Tight Spaces out later this week. That next video is going to be a bit of an experiment for me, however, so we'll see how it works out.

Maquette Review: A Recursive Puzzle World!

Maquette's big twist is that its entire game world is recursive, with multiple coexisting layers of reality wrapped around each other like a set of Russian nesting dolls. With such a mind-twisting premise, you would think that Maquette would be an incredibly complicated puzzle game, but it defies expectation by cutting out anything remotely superfluous, presenting a simplicity that belies its cleverness. It's also about a fairly generic and vague romance, for some reason.
