It's finally here! The Games Under Five Hours video on the Itch.io Racial Justice Bundle is finally live, and it only took a month! Before anything else, I want to give you guys a massive thank you for your patience. When I sat down to try and actually start charting out this project, I almost immediately came to the conclusion that my usual strategy of just picking five games that looked cool wasn't going to cut it with a bundle with thousands of entries and hundreds of games that "looked cool," so this project ballooned drastically in scope from what I had initially anticipated. Which meant that I spent all month working on this instead of my usual weekly reviews, and I missed some real gems in the process! But I hope that the result made the wait and all the radio silence worth it.
This project is easily the biggest I've ever tackled. In length alone, the Celebrating Supergiant video is the next closest, and this one's almost twice as big. It also covers more games than any other video I've made — almost 30 — though not every game gets the full wrapup treatment. And that's all before figuring in all the creative problem solving I had to do when I realized that there are zero guarantees about anything when it comes to itch.io games. Some might not have a single song play during their entire hour runtime...what the hell music do you play for their section? Some games don't have resolution options and just sit in a tiny corner of your screen. Some might not even have a title card for their game! There are a lot of "basic" elements that can be taken for granted right up until you start trying to make a video about some guy's game jam project that struck gold and got thrown up on itch.io. Suffice to say, between all of that, I'm incredibly proud of my work on this one, and I hope you all enjoy!
Starting next week, I'll be back to my usual schedule. That means work's starting on the Mass Effect video again, but more importantly that weekly reviews are back on the menu, starting with a belated review of Necrobarista next week!
