It's another exciting Friday, and another early look at this weekend's video! I'll just let the description (which I wrote anyway) speak for me here:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences recently released new "eligibility guidelines" for the Best Picture Oscar, which requires a movie to effectively meet diversity quotas. Buckley looks at just how easy they've made it to pretend to be diverse without actually being diverse, compares it to a Canadian system made for music eligibility, and explains why it won't really change anything.

My god this is dumb. You add a quota, which is a dumb and destructive way to fight underrepresentation and one that everyone seems to dislike, and the you don't even make it a meaningful quota, by only requiring a handful of people in a pool of hundreds.

Cool video, though. I wouldn't have connected it to the MAPL system if you hadn't, and It's actually very instructive to just go through a popular film as an example.
