There are two ways that one could think of it that would not be a signal of male victimization. The first way i think about this is by looking at the demographics of the people saying this and noting how not outdoorsy they appear. This might be an inaccurate assumption (but unlike this statement it is an assumption to forgive theirs against 50% of the world). This would lead one to believe that the treat posed by a bear is not well conceptualized by them. The second way to look at it is thinking deep woods. Bears live in the "send rescue crews" deepness of the forest. If i was out there and all of a sudden stumbled upon just a dude, i might be more apprehensive than if i saw a bear. But it just means that we can understand basic things about humans. 1. There is a non zero amount of people who would, for whatever reason, intend on victimizing someone else, and 2. Bears are trying to eat stuff. If you make it hard enough for them to get calories out of you they will eventually stop. If a person is physically strong enough to enforce his will upon you there isnt a whole lot that will change that.

Please dont get me wrong i do feel personally set upon when people pull this nugget out, but i try to find the most charitable reading of it.
