Would you guys do a show breaking down the highest rated Nitro vs the lowest rated?

Thank you for having the episode name attached to the MP3! Would love if all the patreon content did that

Couldn’t agree more w/Eric’s assessment of the Wardlow promo durning his interview w/JR last night….I try to give AEW a chance but it’s really just garbage wrestling w/a tv deal

More and more it comes across that Eric just doesn't want a product different from how WWE does it, which is fine if that's your bag. But he literally never talks about anything but story, and wrestling isn't "episodic drama", just because it's been done one way in the mainstream for so long doesn't mean that's the only way to do it. If story is all that matters, wrestling wouldn't exist, there's endless platforms of endless shows for that. And while I like recaps personally, the Marvel movies don't make the effort to clue you up if you missed a tie-in movie, and that hasn't hurt their fanbase, I've seen MCU movies that I missed a couple in between and it didn't stop me watching, it even spurred me on to check what I missed to want to know the references I didn't get in the movie I went to see. I love the show, but Eric's views on wrestling in 2023 don't correlate with me.

Pick any sport, watch it and you will see all of the broadcasts try to tell a story. The story draws in the casual fan who isn't invested in the team or the players. Story is how characters are developed and the characters also draw casual fans. You could have the most amazing wrestling ever, but if you're not using story, drama, and characters, you will have a hard time getting the eyeballs on the wrestling, the sport or whatever you're watching. Otherwise it is just a meaningless exhibition of moves. Think about the potential fans that have no idea who the wrestlers are, they may turn it on and say hey that looks neat but that won't keep someone coming back every week. It is done like this because it works. However if AEW wants to try and develop a new model, go for it. So far we see it as limited success. I will add, if story doesn't matter, there would be no need for announcers.

You all must be fun at parties.

This was also a point I was trying to make as well. Even in traditional play-by-play for sports, there's a high degree of storytelling involved.
