Watch the video version

December 28 marked the 25th anniversary of Starrcade 1997, the culmination of a year-long build where Sting would finally step back in the ring to face Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Title. And then…well.  Sting showed up not tan enough. Nick Patrick did a fast count that wasn’t really a fast count. All this led to one of the most heated exchanges in 83 Weeks history.

And, for the first time since that night, Eric Bischoff and Nick Patrick sit down together LIVE to watch back and discuss what really happened that night at the MCI Center as AFS presents a Premium Watchalong Event, “The Fast Count” with Eric Bischoff and Nick Patrick!

Something about this doesn't seem quite right. I feel like somebody's kayfabeing us STILL. When you listen to this, try to keep an eye out for things that don't add up. I'm not talking about the tan thing. We all know Stinger was having other issues and the tan is just how we refer to it. There's still a major plot hole with who wants the count to be what and how and why Bret Hart is going to interfere. Good listen. But if there's any "dirt" here, I think it's fake dirt and the real dirt wasn't revealed. Just my $0.02.

Alright. I'll just come out and say it. I think Nick Patrick flat out forgot to fast count himself and is trying to fade the heat off to Hogan and do so as lightly as possible. That's why he's saying Eric told him to do a normal count when Bret's whole involvement required something to be off. That makes no sense. I go back to Benoit beating Sid and Sid having his leg under the rope. Maybe the following story involves Hogan saying he won fair and square 1, 2, 3. Hogan's a heel here. Heel's lie cheat and steal. What is that saying Conrad has used a couple times about a heel getting his ass beat one night and going out and lying about it the next day in promos? An actual fast count adds to this. a normal count or slow count takes away from the heel's heat. I see absolutely no reason to do a normal count or a slow count and still have Bret interfere. Nick has mentioned a couple times that he was worried about losing his job. His father is a well known wrestler and he grew up in the business. I think it's a simple case of Nick just forgot because he's done a regular count thousands of times and a fast count maybe a couple. Refs make mistakes and I think Nick just chose the exact wrong time to do so. Eric's the head cheese. If anything was going to happen, it would be from him. Sting doesn't have anybody who can get Nick in trouble or fired. Hogan has a history of politicing, so it makes it easier to blame him. For once, Hogan didn't do anything. Nick just messed up and forgot to fast count. Nothing more to see here.
