Jimmy Garvin had turned face back in February when Jim Cornette burned Ronnie Garvin with a fireball and Jimmy ran to help his "brother". So Flair vs Jimmy Garvin was a heel vs face series and set up the series coming in the Fall with Flair and Ronnie wich led to the title switch.

I don't really know and have never heard this, but it seemed like Dusty liked a heel woman with Tully. Baby Doll worked well but now she's gone having married Sam Houston. I just wonder if Dusty is trying to re-capture that aesthetic with Dark Journey and Tully? I agree it was over kill because you already had JJ. Maybe Dusty was trying to lighten JJ's ring workload since JJ was his asst booker, and had plans down the road of JJ not having to go down to the ring as often? Fun to think about.
