On this episode of What Happened When, Tony and Conrad are back with commentary for another PPV watchalong, it's Starrcade 1999! This PPV is most remembered for the main event between Bret Hart vs. Bill Goldberg for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, which Goldberg kicks Bret in the head, ultimately ending Bret's in-ring career. Other topics include Madusa vs. Evan Karagias for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, Vampiro vs. Oklahoma, Vince Russo, Jeff Jarrett vs. Chris Benoît for the United States Championship, DDP vs. David Flair, and so much more!

Plus, we open the show with a message from Tony about the passing of Tom Zenk which took place just before this episode aired, and a musical tribute to the "Z-Man."

Loved the episode and this was a tremendous match marred by the DQ finish, but in hindsight, it’s hard to think of something better. You couldn’t have Austin or Kurt go over clean because you’re continuing the feud. The only other possibility to me would be Austin winning with Alliance interference, but that would be fairly predictable. But anyway, love the show, love Kurt’s insight and Conrad’s always top-notch with questions.

The opening song tribute to Z-Man was great. I forgot about this. Would be nice to have a goodbye song for when each wrestler passes. We lost several in the last few weeks alone.
