Towards the end of the show, Conrad mentioned only wanting to do carry on luggage on trips because of things going missing. Find somebody you can double check this with, but I heard from a photographer who regularly had expensive camera equipment stolen that you get a starter's pistol. It qualifies as a gun, but you don't need a gun license to carry it. You go to the airport and tell them that it's there when you check your lugage and they seal your bag in front of you and lock it separately. When you get to your destination, they unzip it infront of you and hand you your bag. He said that once he started doing this, he hasn't had any of his expensive camera equipment stolen. Again, find some way of double checking this. But it's what I heard and it at least sounds feasible.
