April of 1986 shapes up to be one of the BIGGEST months in Jim Crockett Promotions history, not only for the lead up and debut of the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tournament, but with huge gates on their live events, all supported by fantastic episodes of World Championship Wrestling on WTBS.
The Rock N’ Roll Express are continuing with their popularity, and we’re seeing Ricky Morton getting some big opportunities outside of the tag division!
Matches with stipulations that involve weapons or cages are often a big draw to a live event, but lead to some bloody encounters, but how much was too much, and who decided what took place?
The buildup of Magnum and Nikita continues, one of the hallmark feuds of 1986 - and Jim Cornette continues to cut amazing promos on TV week after week.
WrestleMania 2 takes place - what did JCP do to try and counter-book that Monday (yes WrestleMania was on a Monday) What did they think of the show? What impressed David the most?
And speaking of big events, the long-awaited Crockett Cup tournament takes place in New Orleans. with a lot of big personalities involved from several different promotions, leading to some issues with booking decisions. It’s a huge bracket, with talent from all over the world, in a day-long event that will mark a big day in the history of JCP with the winner receiving not only the Crockett Cup, but a check for a ‘million dollars’ - just don’t try and cash it!
Plus, the Horsemen are still in their ‘brewing’ stage, as Arn, Tully and World Champion, Ric Flair, are throwing their weight around, from the stage to the ring, and with some nasty backstage attacks .
The month delivers all the action, excitement and drama that will culminate on the final episode of the month’s TV with a situation Tony Schiavone called “the worst thing he’d ever seen in professional wrestling” - but that just sets the table for May! It’s all here in the April 1986 edition of ‘The Book’!
