"I think this turned in a trap for rat catchers."

This painting open the uploads for the week (and the first paid post ever!). I wanted to do something rat-themed for last week's rat day, and the concept of an anthro-rat playing with a rat trap sounded like fun. The first concept involved radioactive cheese, so yeah it could have been... cheesier.

For this painting I wanted to experiment painting less detailed backgrounds: I enjoy painting background but I often feel like they steal too much attention from the subjects, this is something I will keep pushing in the upcoming weeks. I also worked without a detailed drawing as a starting point: I have mixed feelings about that, as this painting ended up taking a lot longer than it would have otherwise and require a lot of reworks (patrons with access to WIPS can definitely see traces of those).

This is also the first painting I did while experimenting with Krita other than Clip Studio. For this reason the file used the PSD file format exclusively. I'm still exploring that software, and I can see myself jumping between the two more in the future.

Again, thanks for supporting me! It would be hard to dare and experiment so much with art on commissioned pieces.
